Echoing a post below, RYs are almost mandatory now if you take a look at the recent match, seems like something changed in PDs eyes about matching them, probably a huge bottleneck in reapps. Not meant to scare you but if you check the old spreadsheet theres a lot of talk of similar too. Chat am I cooked with no RY?
my friend had no RY and got like 18 interviews. i think it's hit or miss
This is not true and don't be discouraged by this. I had over 15 interviews from a low tier school without a RY. All the people I met on aways who did RY did not match. It is so not necessary, and many PDs are getting very sick of the research arms race
I totally agree. I said it below and I'll say it again, I do not think you need a RY to match and match well as long as you and mentors feel confident about your app. I know several ppl last year and this year who matched T20s with no RY
I'm from a mid tier school and had 11 interviews, did no RY and did not decide on derm til the start fo 3rd year
from a state school and had 3 of us match with no RY this year so dw. i think people are gravitating towards quality
quantity of research lately and on one of my aways had a past PD who said that they really dislike applicants having RYs
no RY and 13 interviews here
how many pubs tho
disliking applicants who do RYs is such a crazy blanket statement?
had 30 research items personally (manus, posters, abstracts, etc) with no RY
