I have seen IMGs matched before but usually they are from top schools like European schools, Aga Khan, or Sackler (going to a NY school) and they usually have done research fellowships. it's not surprising at all (given they did research fellowships). If they got in without one, that would be surprising

GWU and SUNY Downstate, shocked

To be fair, one was a research fellow for 2 years, so will effectively have completed 3 years. Don't know about GWU though, but isn't that like a new program?

yes they had their first round of residents this year

Downstate has accepted IMG's in the past, so I'm not surprised

also, I know GW has a research fellow from a caribbean med school....I bet they matched her |
