how far down do programs actualy go on their lists

#1875Feb 21

I heard 2x seats. So if they have 4 seats, they will get to like #8 on their list. Of course more elite programs may only reach the number of seats. Like all top 4 will fill the 4 seats since the program is highly desired.

Am I screwed if I'm only interviewing at T10 programs then

Highly doubt it is this high on their lists except very desirable programs. If they only went 2x their seats they wouldn't be interviewing 10x their seats. Safe bet is halfway down their rank list so if they interview 40 for 4 spots I'd bet they usually end up in the 15-20 range

I heard a place interview 40 and last year they went down to #7. From a scribe. Guess the program.

does anyone actually know where like a mid-tier program typically lands

hard to say because many mid-tier programs rank mid-tier med school appliciants higher and they likely have interviews at only those types of programs - I would say it is similar

totally agree with this. One place I've heard that interviews like 50-60 usually drops to halfway down that list. But 100% agree that mid-tier places often rank by who they think would rank them high> I''m at a mid tier and we match our top 10-15. Being mid tier doesnt make it any less competitive, it just means it's a different pool of people who are a good fit
