upper east side, kips bay, Williamsburg> how do residents manage living there financially?

everyone is comfortable. Some people have roommates or live with SOs. Many live alone and are fine. Living in queens/brooklyn is obviously cheaper. I promise that no one is struggling to pay for rent or food
