do you think programs that have finished interviews (like uconn) have finalized their rank lists already?? although I've heard uconn already has their nepo picks :( really loved the program, my interview, and my time there...
i have heard they (uconn) are finalized after the last interivew . Also heard that this is a really tough year to get into uconn re: #internals, RYs, and fellows (and probably the fabled nepotism)
as an away rotator, uconn has like 6 internals, 2 RY, 2 fellows, and then 1-2 people that have nepotism. goodluck in that bloodbath. itll come down to strength of connections at uconn this year

this number does not include QU students which might be considered home. they also only have 4 spots

no offense to people who take time off to do RYs/etc, but I feel like this giant backup of applicants from the last 1-3 years is going to kill derm for people who go straight through, like of course we're "less qualified" in some aspects compared to those who take them, but like, not everyone finds research fulfilling
will say my institution recommends against research years, unless you switched into derm late
there are definitely less research focused programs though, which are a better fit for non-RY applicants - not everyone is applying to or hoping to stay in academic programs
my research-heavy home program also recommends against them unless you decide late because you have to be very productive if you choose to take one
app trends are always changing, best to carve out an individualized path!
