Any insight on why Texas Tech didn't take any home students this past cycle??? That seems so odd to me
because they don't get to pick and choose exactly who they get? it's an algorithm? their home students might have been tired of lubbock or may have all loved somewhere they rotated. it's not that deep
I'm not a Texas tech student, but my home program only matched one home student this past cycle. We all loved our home program but as a group, we were interested in aspects of derm that were not strengths of our home program. Just because a program doesn't keep a lot of home students doesn't mean it's bad. Y'all always want to have it both ways. If a program kept a bunch of home students, you'd say "don't apply it's low yield" or "they favor home students so heavily". Never forget that programs do not get to choose who matches there. Texas tech's last cohort of derm applicants could have just collectively had priorities that led them to train elsewhere and that's fine
Well I'm asking because they had at least 5 home students not match at all so it's just weird...
sometimes people are just not great applicants. Your home program owes you nothing (unfortunately). You are literally a random med student and it's not their responsibility to make sure you match. I am using the royal "you"here - this applies to everyone. They also could've been great applicants and are a reflection of the unfortunate nature of the process. Plenty of great applicants go unmatched every year . Maybe they werent great fits for their home program/had interests that could not be fostered at Texas tech. This process is crazy and unpredictable!
The thing that bothered me was Texas Tech matching someone who did not do an away.
