Can we talk about how Derm Link Scholars is absolutely a pay-to-play game and they just put out low quality research with little to no physician oversight? And the people in charge have like 50-100+ pubs out of it but all low quality journals, random review articles that are probably written by mainly ChatGPT and everyone on the paper splits the APC fees out of pocket lol.

im also not 100% sure if those physicians that are tacked on are derms lol

its 100% a scam taking advantage of med students to pay and then publish in trash journals so unethical sad to see

now its turned into a money grab with the conference

the fees go directly to journals. most students (usually MD) have APC waived due to affiliation with instution so they dont have to pay for publishing fees. none of the amnt goes to DLS. if you happen to be on a paper where none of the authors have APC aggreement thru their school then yes sometimes student pay and the cost is $30 a student so its not much. Also student that are very familiar on research know what good journal to publish in that dont have fees

it's hard to tell if this is real feedback about the derm link scholars page vs people wishing they were able to hop on some pubs

Feb 21

"pubs" lol> dermlink scholars pretty much the crux of everything wrong with the research mill of derm these days lol

Feb 21

Exactly!! Just inflating their #s by getting as many pubs as they can from shitty journals that accept everyone and arent even PubMed Indexed. they're publishing mainly in predatory journals.

who runs this group? seems like it needs to be reported

lowk i'm working with them but i agree, it's not producing research into anything new or innovative in derm it's not really research

Feb 21

same..> yikes, yeah i saw that some articles aren't coauthored by derms.... idk

i think it's a good way for people without research to dip their foot in, as it's hard to get research opportunities without any research on your CV. for derm, probs not the best to solely do DLS but it can be helpful to start. just my opinion >Why are comments being deleted

Most of the papers do not have dermatologists on them.

having a derm on a paper isnt rq for good research in the field. if you published a very good article with a PCP about melanoma etc im sure derm programs will eat that shit up. I think its dissapointing to see the negative attitudes over this orgs efforts to help students out. Im not a part of this org, however a derm faculty would find these kind of attitudes as a turn off. Its not good to tear down other ppl and their work. Its still an accomplishment. Also side note, these kind of negative uncollaborative attiudes are able to be picked up in interviews and away rotations

who is the non derm physician that runs it?

Feb 21

oh i see i thought yall meant an attending from another speciality - at least she is in derm and will soon be boarded? I don't think she's a derm resident yet til 2026

shes at Northwell in NYC. Its clear that she def was a competitive applicant to match there, especially at a NY program because they are so competive in that region. She also the only DO student to have been accepted to the program at least in the last 4 years. Idk if shes the first DO student, but clearly seems like her 100+ research whether published in low-tier journals or not has paid off in some ways. I applaud her for trying to make as space for students to get on research.

GIRL YOU OR ONE OF THE DLS MINIONS DEFINITELY WROTE THAT LMAO

funny you assumed, im a girl. Im not a part of DLS or anyone minions. But i can just tell when ppl give biased/fake advice to their peers applying derm and it need to be clocked (i.e. like telling ppl to leave published work of their application by fear mongering them). having a publication in derm, even if its in a low tier journal is better, than having nothing or having less..PDs at huge schools will prob not know who this girl is and they will not throw your app to the trash for publishing work with her and other students. like please make it make sense. And for those that cant make up their mind on whether to keep the research on their app or not, please share your CV with your current PD/chair/mentor in your next meeting and see if they will point it out...bc they wont even care
