I didn't get a supplemental from BU even though I applied - does this mean anything or should I reach out?
if you didn't signal then don't expect one
I signalled and didn't get one :( < what was your step score out of curiosity?
But the expectations are higher all around. More pubs, more ECs, higher STEP 2, higher grades (if at a graded or H/HP/P school), all while there is more content on STEP 2 than ever etc. Of course it's going to be more challenging to do amazing on STEP 2 with all of the other expectations also rising. Our time is demanded in so many more realms with med school being the same length OR SHORTER than it has always been. It is completely valid for students to be frustrated when programs have high STEP 2 cutoffs. < It's valid to feel frsutrated. it's not valid to be literally appalled or outraged that top dermatology programs to use high scores or high research numbers to screen.
I dont think anyone is appalled or outraged lmao < you should hear some of my co-rotators lol. One called Mayo "a disgusting program" for having any kind of Step score cut off
Mayo isn't disgusting because of the step score cut off, it's disgusting because it's Mayo
Short for Mayonnaise
Also the step 2 scores on average keep getting more inflated every year. While a 250 used to be super impressive, it's now not even the top half. So programs arent really going on score as much as they are percentile. Totally valid for the most competitive specialty to want med students who score in the top half.
Pretty sure ortho is more competitive < nah dawg, derm has same board score avg, a lower match rate, higher research #s, higher AOA #s < https://medschoolinsiders.com/specialty-ranking/ use whatever parameters you like to weight it/play around
