Apr 1
0

cornell barely matches 1 fellow, if any, per year (correct me if im wrong)

Apr 2

is there a list somewhere?

Apr 1

I don't think anything or anyone can guarantee you a match

Apr 1
0

pretty much none? imo if an institution matches back a good amount of their RY students I would take that as a positive

Apr 1

larkin palm springs research year with Dr. Skopit guarantees match

Apr 1

larkin south miami research year with Dr. Skopit guarantees match

Apr 2

Cornell does not match every research fellow this is absolutely false about cornell, they are not loyal> larkin south miami research year with Dr. Skopit guarantees match

Apr 2

The Maryland RY seems pretty guaranteed as well, not back to Maryland per say but just derm

cornell does not match their own fellows very often>> Larkin South Miami home of the pay2play derm position has an unpaid RY which they will guarantee your acceptance the following year in their wonderful program

What RYs guarantee a match?

#2323Feb 21

prob none for sure, maybe sinai bc their match is all RY fellows (still competitive, but you're competing against less people i suppose tbh)

Feb 21

heard uab/tulane have good match rate for their fellows. ultimately it's going to depend on your relationship with your mentor!

What MD programs do out of match offers?

#1096Feb 21

Applied last year with a similar question... none that I know of personally out of all the MD programs. Its a match violation. Not even the "niche" programs like the two in Puerto Rico match outside the match (however they take 99% from PR with the exception of one student from Tufts last year). The one DO program that matches outside the match pretty consistently is St. John's Episcopal (3 residents per year). I wouldn't be surprised if other programs with 1 resident per year didn't already know who they were going to take prior to the cycle though, effectively providing an "outside the match hunch" to the applicant.

I remember there was someone at Sinai who was offered an out of match offer in February (this was back in 2022 i believe) and did not take it at insistence of Sinai's home department. I'm not sure if this story is true or not. I would imagine though that if a program did give someone an out of match offer, and the program would then withdraw from the match for that year. That would not make it a match violation, right?

Feb 21
0

yep!

Of note Tulane does offer a research fellowship every 2 years starting after completion of an ACGME recognized TY/internship in Medicine or Surgery. It is reserved for 1 individual under Dr. Boh (the chair of the department). When you sign up it is with the understanding you are guaranteed into their program after two years of grinding papers. It's pretty competetive to land. Their fellow just matched to Tulane Derm this past cycle. https://medicine.tulane.edu/dermatology/fellowship/clinical-research

is tulane derm interview on the away or after?

#1022Feb 21

its after , if you away rotated there... when you show up on interview day in-person, the mini-5-min interviews are all just chill "catching-up" interviews where you just yap. It's really nice. I'd say Dr. Boh is the true interview test that day... she makes it VERY VERY aparent that they want people who actually want to be in New Orleans and will try to tease out if you're ranking them highly or not.

Feb 21

this is sooo helpful tysm

Feb 21

when you say its after is it like during the normally scheduled interview days or its at the end of the rotation?> all their interviews are on the actual interview days. Think they had 2 days last year.

signaling tips for a program that guarantees interview after an away?? like tulane or UM for example

#556Feb 21

Tea on which programs almost always interview their away rotators? (either on the away or invite them later on), I know so far Emory, UF...

#520Feb 21

Miami, Tulane> Tennessee

Feb 21
0

so for these programs, do you not need to signal them (gold or silver) if you do an away rotation there?

Feb 21
0

you'll have to ask them, ik programs also change from year to year, signals are still fairly new

Feb 21
0

you def still should silver signal your aways at the least unless specifically told otherwise, but in my experience they all still wanted a signal some aways wanted silver and told us to save gold for others

Feb 21
2

heard wake forest interviews them all!> not true for WF >LSU

is there a list of which programs guarantee interviews to their away rotators?

#403Feb 21

you can probably look at the old sheets linked on the reddit and it can give a rough idea

Feb 21

Feel like none of these aren't guaranteed anymore :(

Feb 21
0

no theres several that still auto interview. just look at the spreadsheets the information is there

Feb 21

Emory, Miami, Tulane auto IV. Maybe some other smaller programs do as well >since when is Miami auto IV? with their 400 internals lol >Miami only accepts 4-8 rotators per year and interview all of them during the rotation.

best derm research fellowships with guaranteed match?

#3384Mar 19

Tulane

Mar 19
0

> Tulane is only for those who interviewed there

Mar 19
0

duke, UAB, SLU, sinai, Emory, melanoma fellowship, penn

Mar 19
0

i don't agree Emory

Mar 19
0

also i wouldn't say any of these are guaranteed. it should be *highly increases* your chances of matching

Mar 19
0

also i would directly talk to the research fellows that are coming from these RYs. If the mentors are saying one thing, and RY fellows that matched are saying another about their experiences, I'd be wary. Don't forget that many applicants have home programs and other sources of networking/support that could have contributed in very meaningful positive ways.

Mar 19
0

also if mentors don't offer to connect you with past research fellows who have matched i'd take that as a red flag

Does anyone know if the Tulane RY is open to apply to? I cant find info on how to apply

#3406Mar 21

Does anyone know if the Tulane RY is open to apply to? I cant find info on how to apply> they have a new fellow that will be starting this year.

Mar 21

It's a 2 year fellowship and only open to people they've interviewed for residency but didn't match.

Mar 21

It's a 2 year fellowship and only open to people they've interviewed for residency but didn't match. < Yes, Dr. Erin Boh runs it. She's had the fellowship for quite a while actually. If you went unmatched and she calls you if you want to take it, take it.
