How the hell does such a random program get so highly ranked?

Given that there are no reliable published rankings for dermatology residency programs, it seems to be mostly word of mouth. Having grown up and attended both undergrad and med school in MI, can confirm. HF is often cited as one of the "top 5/top10" derm programs. Lots of diversity given proximity to detroit. Extremely strong faculty.

Agree with this (Michigander here): they have a typical county hospital population with lots of zebras, people with advanced disease.
