I'm PGY1, when I search for 'physician only' programs under dermatology in NRMP, there are 29 programs with many active for the match. However, many/most of these were not available in ERAS... what is up with these active positions outside of ERAS? example: Miami, LSU, Boston, NYMC, SUNY, multiple UT's, Utah all have active physician only positions in the match but they aren't on ERAS... (for Utah they just got approval in late Jan from ACGME to add an additional resident to their program, and they're choosing to add it immediately to their incoming PGY-2 class. no clue about other programs though)

<this isnt true. they are not going to pay these people less than averagr residents (true; clinical fellows salaries are based on pgy level)

Programs know that R positions are lucrative and tend to go outside the match, they know they can remove things from a normal contract and offer less given how desperate these candidates are. Really most know who they tend to take as these are people currently in fellowships getting used as free labor and are the PI of the fellowship year is typically good friends of the PD. They know they can get some more abuse out of these suckers so why not
