An advantage that makes sense in light of the history of the field, but an advantage nonetheless. Programs want to recruit URM applicants over ORM applicants. just a fact < has anyone seen a derm match list with more than 2 urms? if so, how many? i keep hearing about this advantage but where are they? the match list tab is almost complete. why isn't it overflowing with urms? you'd think that with all the advantage most would have matched and we would be able to see the result, no? < maybe fewer urms are applying though, hard to say without a racial/ethnic breakdown of the match rate < bro its obvious
I think the disadvantage for ORM is probably more at top programs which can more reliably recruit the small but very valuable pool of URM, I mean look at Harvard and NYU's match lists, between both of them there are two white students, one each. 2/18 is like 11%. White students make up like 50% of med school grads per quick stats online (2019). I'm not saying this is wrong, but you asked if there's a disadvantage and I think the data will support a disadvantage at at least top institutions compared to expected proportions
< lets assume few are applying. so where is this advantage if few are applying to start with? or better yet, where the disadvantage of urms to your application as an orm is few are applying
