Why do residency spots change year by year? Stanford had 7 last year and now 10? < Stanford varies every cycle, but not sure why < i think it depends on funding < Yeah they cycle between 7-10 residents. < do you know why? i thought it would always be the same<< bc sometimes they get extra funding one year but then they end up staggered and have to keep going by those numbers (is one reason)>former Stanford resident here--it has to do with how many current PGY2 residents decide to do the 2 track since that funding comes from a separate pool (NIH funding), that then opens up more Stanford residency spots.
