Significant other is in Boston--looking for RY there. Who are best people at Harvard/BU/Tufts to work with?

Similar to person below, I matched into my back-up of pediatrics. Does anyone know people who have done peds then derm residency? Do I need to do a prelim year again though? Thank you!! < There was a woman on DermTwitter who matched into Derm this year and will be completing her Pediatrics residency at Yale. < could i please have a name or link? ty!

I personally know several people who have done this recently as well! And I believe they didn't do another prelim year < yay, thank u!! did they complete the entire peds residency or just partial?

you got this!! I personally know many who had success switching from peds to derm! You can do it too! :) < ❤️ << where did the bu resident match? < she matched peds at boston children's, then derm at BU, and now fellowship at boston children's

i know someone who did one year of peds and then switched to a derm physician only spot so was able to start derm directly after a peds intern year! so if you want to switch earlier could be worth looking into! < omg that's awesome, was she in a peds prelim position or categorical? i hope my program is supportive

Tufts or HF? In terms of prestige < In terms of perceived prestige by name only, I'd go with Tufts. Having Harvard and BU Derm close by in Boston helps if you're considering fellowship as they feed off each other in terms of taking people they know.

Any BU kids wanna comment on the culture? < pros: workload is manageable, everyone is outwardly chill. cons: lots of passive aggressiveness, heard attendings trash residents for petty reasons. < The BU faculty can be somewhat petty and a little needy (like many Dermatology attendings who believe you should wait on them hand and foot, so nothing new)>

Just confirming that BMC has gotten rid of the rule requiring you to stay on as junior faculty after residency. can any home students and/or away rotators confirm? < it is strongly encouraged that all residents do it. but not REQUIRED per say. need for good rec letters. < they strongly encourage residents to stay on as junior faculty? wtf << OP here: I asked the program coordinator and that requirement ended 2 years ago < I understand that it's no longer required, but is it still "strongly encouraged" to stay on BUMC's Derm faculty for x number of years? <yes

Why doesnt derm have a separate match? Apologies if this was answered before. < I wish it did < The BU Derm Chair tweeted a while back that the revenue generated from derm applications alone could fund a seperate match like uro and ophtho < found it https://twitter.com/BUDermatology/status/1479468115364749314?s=20&t=rtq9nWWewj3bvIcFa5hHmw < Another side benefit, people applying to backup specialties can rest assured everything being separate.

does anyone know if BU interviews are panel style or one on one? < also is the interview really only 1 hour < yeah one hour, five short breakout rooms with 2 faculty, pretty lowkey < mostly behavioral Qs? did they grill you on research? seemed like they were very interested in that based on the info session

For the BU ppt, does it mean that first year residents do not get academic time? < correct. which is annoying as shit < damn ty

Am I the only one who got weird vibes from BU residents? < how so < it felt disjointed like the residents didn't have much connection to each other. and like they struggled to make conversation < i'm interviewing 1/14 so if any of y'all are interviewing tmrw pls fill out impressions tab lol

Weeee BU sent a swag bag with a t-shirt, what a nice surprise! It's crazy how easily I'll sell my soul for a free t-shirt x3 < can we all wear our matching t shirts at the pre interview social < omg that would be so cute! i'm so excited about them hehe < I would except firetruck red is not my best color lmao < wait firetruck red is not my color either but i LOVE this idea HAHA not my color but downnnn < ok we will reconnect closer to the interview dates to decide if this is something some people actually want to do hehehehe. let's see if they say anything about dress code for the social haha
