Scottsdale, AZ
Sentiment score: 3.8 / 10
Applicants express mixed to negative sentiment about HonorHealth-AZ, with concerns about interview quality, administrative disorganization (incorrect ERAS listings, confusing email communications), and uncertainty about the program's transition from a DO-friendly program to one accepting more MDs. Some applicants note it is a solid community program with good clinical training and new ASU partnership, but many report rejections and frustration with the application process.

Does UT austin or honorhealth AZ have socials? Can't find them
thoughts on HonorHealth/Arizona State?> I did! you?
thoughts on the HonorHealth program, can't find much info about this program < Soon will be ASU, have contact derm experts, overall solid community program. Used to be one of the best DO friendly programs now slowly becoming MD. < Was never considered one of the top DO programs haha

What are the best community programs? ones with best training/opportunities?
orange park
is honorhealth good? < yes have heard honorhealth is good too
> as an aside, what makes something a "community program"?
not affiliated with a university

if I only want to do private practice and don't want to do any research/academics should I rank a community program higher (like HonorHealth)? Idk if the training would be strong as it's not prestigious academically < If pressure to publish and do research would make you miserable then yes. If not, go academic just for the name. IMO community programs actually have better training and higher volume, but academic name brand looks great on paper and opens more doors early on. But in the long run, the most successful derms I know were from community programs because they learned the business of private practice during residency and got higher volume training / used to seeing way more patients from early on.
community programs are great but thinking that you won't get high volume training at an academic center is crazy. Like everything, your training and experience are PROGRAM DEPENDENT, not academic vs community. Rank which programs you like the best regardless of name, prestige, program type, etc. every program has something unique to offer. You might rank a community program first, then Harvard, then another community program, then so on. Your rank list shouldn't make sense to anyone else because it should be so tailored to your wants and needs
just rank the programs you will be happiest bro. program name doesn't matter for jobs when you're a board certified derm, unless you wanna do academics (which you dont)
Rank the place you will be happiest

Does anyone have any insight into the HonorHealth program? Is the program a community based one? I heard they have a new partnership with ASU. I have family in AZ and my other interviews are at "higher ranked" programs in the east coast/midwest, as someone interested in Mohs would I have a chance at this program? I honestly haven't heard much about this program so any info/advice would be greatly appreciated as I would love to stay close to family!
definitely community program, definitely disadvantage from fellowship perspective. residents nice.
> would it be possible to match into Mohs? I personally didn't have a home program applying derm, if I matched here I would be willing to network and reach out to other departments, seems like none of their graduates have done fellowship but not sure if that's due to interest or not getting it, would be nice to return home
during open house the PD specifically called out saying that they have never matched a resident into Mohs and that this isn't the program for you if you want to do Mohs
vividly remember this discussed on the spreadsheet lol

OK, super curious - is yield protection a thing (not just based on scores or signaling but overall app strength and likelihood of person actually choosing the program)
Not sure what you mean by yield protection, but programs 100% factor the likeihood on whether an applicant would want to come to a program in their ranking (e.g., programs from the Midwest/Mountain/South would rank the East/West Coasters lower if the applicant does not give the program strong reason why they would want to come there)
I think yield protection is real (maybe just cope) but I have a PhD and didn't get any interviews at "less competitive" places like Henry Ford, Brown, and community places despite interviews at more "top" places
I hAvE a PhD wHy dIdnT bRoWarD wAnT me
Brown is less competitive what ru saying?
me when I didnt get an HonorHealth interview.. >
It's real for sure
Did anyone else get an email from Honor Health today?
nope what did it say tho
it was an email saying "make sure you've applied to our IM prelim program" and that the derm residency program will start reviewing applications soon. Whats strange is I'd already applied to the IM Prelim program. Did you apply to Honor health derm?
yes, but no signal :( <OP here, I silivered so not sure what this means.
does this mean it is still linked to the prelim?
I silvered Honor Health and didn't get this email. Also they're gonna START reviewing apps?! They are meant to release 11/17 wtf
maybe because you already applied to the prelim?
I am reapplicant and already am doing a prelim and got this email. Should I apply to their prelim regardless?
no lol

is honorhealth arizona a DO program?
yes historically, but they take mds
has anyone heard from honorhealth on VSLO? They said they would start sending out in Feb. Is it worth an email to coordinator?
I emailed and they said that they do not have an active agreement with my school currently and are not executing new agreements, so make sure your school has an agreement with them. >. were you still able to apply through VSLO even thought your school did not have an agreement
it is just wrong to allow an applicant to apply and pay on VSLO if there is no affiliation agreement and they won't be considered. they should have it where you cannot apply
yes my school has an agreement. I figured they would at least decline the application but they might be ghosting
ya it is wrong i was still able to apply even tho we don't have an agreement and wasn't aware until i emailed.
