OHSU is a competitive mid-tier program with strong research opportunities and an attractive Portland location, but applicants express concerns about lack of diversity among patients and faculty. The program generates significant interview activity with multiple rounds of invitations and rejections, though some applicants report concerns about institutional leadership and workplace culture issues.

Can we create a list of programs that have early morning didactics (like 6:30 or 7am start time) before clinic?

When a program says they have "academic half days", does this just refer to study time or lectures

"academic half days" are study time. "didactics" are lectures

Why does every derm program have some kind of exploitation? Like UCSF forcing residents to cover attending inboxes for patients they'e never seen before?

#26852025–2026 DermFeb 21

y'all need to remember that this is NOTHING!!!!!!! compared to a residency in IM/surgery/peds/etc. yes it sucks but it's so so so so much better than what you could be dealing with. This is also another plug for everyone to do a chill TY instead of a prelim lol < what an odd response

Not every program exploits, but yes some definitley do

…what was odd about that response

that theyre putting down other specialties as if theyre malignant> because they are lol

Feb 21

yikes if you guys think derm is any different… the joke is that specialties are all malignant in some capacity and it depends on the program. Derm isn't special and you aren't above other specialties because you matched Derm. respect other specialites guys what is wrong with that....

Being forced to do stupid shit like cover atttending inbox can actually make a big impact on your QoL .. lol

which programs do this?

CCF, UMich, OHSU

tufts too

Feb 21

At CCF, you only cover the attending in boxes of patients that you have seen so it was just part of the continuing care of your patients just like in the real world

Feb 21

without the attending salary yay

Feb 21

Umich does not cover attending inboxes (you cover your own inbox for patients you staffed with an attending, and if they see patients independently, they cover the inbox stuff)

Need to swap- am not sure if people are still checking the date swap tab. Trying to schedule SUNY 1/7 or 1/14 but the dates overlap my other interviews. Have OHSU 1/14, need 1/21. Have Northwell Hofstra 1/7 need 1/21. Could anyone please help a brother out and swap dates for OHSU or SUNY? 5413994603

would your 1/21s not interfere with eachother?

Can someone provide insight regarding which program is "better": UW vs. OHSU? Both are the only real programs in the PNW. UW is larger but doesn't have Mohs. UW also has very little cosmetics

I have no ties to Cali aside from some non immediate family in the Silicon valley area. I really wanted to do an away on the west coast to establish ties and signal I want to go there. I applied to UCSD on time and a few other programs later (OHSU, UCSF, Kaiser, Loma Linda) but haven’t heard anything… is there like no chance I get an away out west at this point? Is there anywhere else I can add an app to at this point where I might have a chance? I emailed UCSD coordinator once a month ago, is it too much to email again… I got rejected from the peds derm dates but haven’t heard ab the clinical derm

#2542025–2026 DermFeb 21

I was also rejected from peds derm dates and ghosted on adult derm so far from UCSD

I'm glad we're applying at literally the worst possible time, even worse than COVID (I assume you all switched from med to grad school around then too)> looks like OHSU is not offering 2 this year either

You would need to make a compelling case that you'll be an investigative dermatologist doing 80/20 (research/clinical). 1st author basic science pubs help. The alumns are top-notcth : Dr. Roger Lo (Current director), Dr. Jenny Kim (Mohs Fellowship Director), Dr. Rajan Kalkarni (2 PI at OHSU), Dr. Delphine Lee (Chair at Harbor-UCLA) and more. < thank you. is there a way to look up the current STAR residents? Is STAR only for UCLA David Geffen?< STAR is only for UCLA David Geffen < https://www.uclahealth.org/dermatology/our-expert-team (search STAR) < thank you! < out of curiosity, what's the difference in overall culture and mission for UCLA David Geffen v. Harbor-UCLA? < Harbor UCLA is LA County and you mostly see county patients (underserved). There 5 residents total. Lots of autonomy. UCLA is typical academic program (5 residents/yr), collegial residents, great faculty who love teaching. UCLA has sites in very affluent areas (Santa Monica and Westwood) but you also get training at Olive-View county, Venice Family Clinic (underserved, underinsured, and unsheltered), and at West LA VA (in Brentwood). You'll see everything under the sun. Schedule is really chill. The faculty are well connected. The graduates do very well (no problems getting into competitive fellowships). Some graduates stay on as faculty; even though, UCLA pays VERY well for the region (https://ucannualwage.ucop.edu/wage/), many of those faculty get poached. The residents are unionized so you get great benefits including 12k housing stipend. < But what about recent alumn? Seems like there are no records of any recent alumns. Where did they go??? < Fellowships and private practice.

how big a deal is it is a program also has a pa training program?< are you refering to U Miami loll< nah miami is the exception on my list of slacker programs i put together based only on reddit anonymous comments. i heard they have a SaTurdy clinic and im a slacker so this is not a gOOd Fit for me < was about ohsu. didn't know PAs could hold "assistant professor in dermatology titles" lol <okay im sorry i showed my biases there but if we are talking OHSU i heard it was run by literal angels i could not even attempt to say anything bad about that program < loool idk who you are but i love you
