Did anyone else see that Residency Explorer says that Tufts, University of Michigan, and Mount Sinai are not accepting applications for the 2027 cycle? Is this true or just an error?

Fame & Shame
2025–2026 Derm
2 entries✅1. Super sweet residents, they try really hard to make you feel welcome, the course coordinator and director are extremely responsive and invested in your experience, and they all write nice comments about you! Mostly working with residents and a few dedicated days with an attending 1:1 in clinic. Attendings you work with are also super kind.
❌1. Parking sucks; expensive at main hospital and even then, have to drive around to find a spot for a while.

stanford come to mind

any program that has a special research resident spot or combined med-derm program. Would also look at programs that take a lot of Mh/PhDs

Anyone know anything about that PGY-2 opening at DCC in Michigan? Supposedly they're taking applications but zero response from the coordinator.

yes they matched people last cycle

Still nothing.> Still nothing 5/22
Still nothing.> Still nothing 5/23
lurking M3 here, low key scared for next cycle. Our US MD med school had 7 applicants with many that I felt were really strong and none of them matched. I thought that it was insane.
0/7 is insane. yale was something like 4/10
its a public state med school so maybe that's why but still crazy
0/7 sucks. Yale was somethign like 4/10. Its just the way it is
yeah it's a public state school Michigan State
as a derm resident, in your case my advice would be to try to do as many away as you possibly can. Prepare the best CV and apply to aways on day 1 and try to do 3-4+ ideally
The new derm landscape is basically home + away is where the vast majority of people match, and even then, there's far more home+away applicants to programs than there are spots. The truth is that the current system for derm is broken, and until things change the reality is great applicants will go unmatched every year.
every competitive field is like this in the real world
"The new derm landscape is basically home + away is where the vast majority of people match" --- Honestly, that's the way Derm has lalways been, for the most part. It's a seller's market.
devin barzallo making a tiktok on the race discord below that man always on here lurking
the exposure is crazy why is he airing our business liek that? obivously for the content < Because younger dermatology faculty are also just as far left and weirdly "woke" as he is.
ok like can he remove the screenshots of spreadsheet tthat is just crazy> u guys are embarrasing thats why and should be screenshotted
"weirdly woke" and its just not being a racist
he needs to stop like PLS. >umm no
you're embarrassing my guy
you're embarrassing my guy < "just not being a racist" = being against racial quotas for Derm residency spots
if you think racial quotas are a real thing with 80% of derm residents being white or asian, its time for a reality check
He's UMich's problem for 3 years now < Gay Hispanic guy talking about privilege while doing a research year and living in a luxury apartment. Pure comedy.
if you think racial quotas are a real thing with 80% of derm residents being white or asian, its time for a reality check> "weirdly woke" but people get killed because of the color of their skin and have been for a long time, but ok...
Haha yeah, he feels so out of touch while making tiktoks and trying to be an influencer in his luxury apartment and posting about international trips
he is legit the demographic that was called out yesterday which is rich URMs playing the card lmfao, irony is unreal
pls get your head out of your asses. he grew up in an underserved community and worked his butt of to get to where he is. i'm pretty sure he lives with his neurosurgeon fiance while he completes his intern yr. he is using his platform to speak out. but by all means keep whining on here about exposure.
its giving mean/shady gay ngl < He's "speaking out" on something he has absolutely no clue about. Hence his lecturing of a Dermatology attending.
the 'pgy32' dermatology attending who was being racist and which he showed receipts of? i fear you have lost the plot.

what an idiotic thing to say. like they aren't still getting killed.
the 'pgy32' dermatology attending who was being racist and which he showed receipts of? i fear you have lost the plot. < I know this is going to shock you but not everything you disagree with is "racist." My guess is your think the SCOTUS decision striking down affirmative action is also "racist."
I’m not going to argue with someone who isn’t interested in reason.
Im sure Umich will have a blast with him, lol
puts on this research and outreach persona when he will probably end up going into private practice and never doing these things ever again (based on similar personalities I have seen in derm throughout the years) < He seems like a very nice person who wants to help others, but I do think he may be somewhat out-of-touch. I don't think it's intentional and I don't think he's trying to be malicious but it's grating nonetheless.
My opinions of him are irrelevant but I think its kinda whack yall are trashing someone on an anonymous server where the individual has no grounds to reply. Some of yall might be just as lame or worse than some of the ppl you complain about
what an idiotic thing to say. like they aren't still getting killed.> sad, but the hatred and apathy always come back so have fun with that
My opinions of him are irrelevant but I think its kinda whack yall are trashing someone on an anonymous server where the individual has no grounds to reply. Some of yall might be just as lame or worse than some of the ppl you complain about> yea fr get a life all of you. People can use the phone and internet they pay for to advocate for just causes
people hate advocates. Anybody who commented in this thread defaming this man is probably far worse than the man itself might be in the worst of lights. Disgusting behavior
You people are actually insane and need to go touch grass lmaoooooo like if anything yall are just giving him more views and more money be so fr. Like him or not but sitting online on this spreadsheet and talking sh*t when there's rotations to be done and publications to be published is actually pathalogic, it's scary you lot will be someone's doctor one day
Nah he's a loser. Supports disparaging comments about women based on their appearance.
He blocked me on tiktok after I commented on his response video during all the controversy around not having acne for audition rotations. This Thi creator said "white counterparts, blonde or not, should be educated in cultural humility and diversity" and Devin made all this long emoji-filled comment agreeing with that take. So using the naive blonde stereotype completely defeated his whole argument about how appearance-based assumptions are harmful, but when Devin was challenged on that, he was too cowardly to respond and chose to block me instead. New flash, you can call out the issues in derm culture without stereotyping an entire group of people based on their physical features. And agreeing with commenters who do so just means you're calling out bias with more bias. And I was perfectly polite and open to having a discussion. Evidently he can't handle construtive criticism well!
Struggling w rank list bc I loved my away but interview day vibes were mid and half of them seemed to not remember me so it's making me want to rank them lower
would we consider it a bad sign if residents/attendings from an away don't remember us
location is everything
> lol was this michigan?
was thinking the same thing lol> Must be Michigan!>No, its UAMS!
i mean put it where you want and if it works out it works out if not you go somewhere lower on the list?
was thinking the same thing lol> Must be Michigan!>No, its UAMS!
Do most programs have moonlighting? Specifically UW (Seattle) and Northwestwern
what about UCSD and Michigan??
you can look this up on ResidencyExplorer as well as other useful metrics like average # hours worked, etc.
didn't know RE had moon information! Thank you!!
pretty sure no moonlighting at UCSD

Did everyone who interviewed at Michigan get the "UMich Employment Eligibility Confirmation Survey" today? (12.19pm)
yes x2
Why does every derm program have some kind of exploitation? Like UCSF forcing residents to cover attending inboxes for patients they'e never seen before?
y'all need to remember that this is NOTHING!!!!!!! compared to a residency in IM/surgery/peds/etc. yes it sucks but it's so so so so much better than what you could be dealing with. This is also another plug for everyone to do a chill TY instead of a prelim lol < what an odd response
Not every program exploits, but yes some definitley do
…what was odd about that response
that theyre putting down other specialties as if theyre malignant> because they are lol
yikes if you guys think derm is any different… the joke is that specialties are all malignant in some capacity and it depends on the program. Derm isn't special and you aren't above other specialties because you matched Derm. respect other specialites guys what is wrong with that....
Being forced to do stupid shit like cover atttending inbox can actually make a big impact on your QoL .. lol
which programs do this?
CCF, UMich, OHSU
tufts too
At CCF, you only cover the attending in boxes of patients that you have seen so it was just part of the continuing care of your patients just like in the real world
without the attending salary yay
Umich does not cover attending inboxes (you cover your own inbox for patients you staffed with an attending, and if they see patients independently, they cover the inbox stuff)

With respect to the cell below, can you help me rank the best programs for cosmetics: NW, UW, UCSD, UM, Vanderbilt
Definitely not UW. I feel like programs with most cosmetic exposure (and demand) are in larger cities than Madison WI. I'd guess UCSD probably has a decent amount
UW is in Seattle
I hear NW has a lot of cosmetics but i didnt apply there
lol there are 2 UWs
definitely not UMich, in the interview they specifically cited their lack of cosmetics
NW or Mich probs
for exposure to cosmetics?
UW madison or UW washington? washington literally said during interviews not to go there if you want to do cosmetics, they're very strong in the med-derm arena tho
Vanderbilt interview day said they have increasing cosmetic exposure and the ability to do 3-4 weeks working with someone who does alot of cosmetics.
NW also mentioned strong cosmetics

MICHIGAN QUESTION: I thought the PD said that there is 4 weeks of cosmetic clinic and monthly sessions on cosmetics. Is that a good amount to feel adequate to do cosmetics as an attending? Is that a regular amount of cosmetics (or more) than most programs? I'm just confused why some say the program has "no cosmetics".> pd said "if you are looking for cosmetics, this is not the right program for you"
What's a good program for cosmetics? It seems like all of the programs I have interviewed at emphasize their expertise in research and complex med-derm. What do we do if we want to get more cosmetic experience??
the programs are out there, michigan is not the place for cosmetics
wait why is Mohs at Michigan 2 years
one year is training and the next year you are like a mini attending (you'll have support from faculty but can do cases on your own)
but you get paid as a fellow...?
Yes. It's fucking stupid and is just another year not getting paid.
jr faculty not fellow
So actually paid? Why be strapped to that place for a whole year after training?
intended to just help ease in attending life but yall don't like that
