What anonymous posters said
Anonymous posters frequently described confusion and frustration over the timing and consistency of interview invitations and rejection notices, with several noting duplicate rejection emails that many attributed to administrative error rather than intent. A few posts mention the program does not offer away rotations. Many commenters described residents and faculty as happy and the training as strong, with some noting positive recent changes.

what makes some schools better at matching people into derm? seeing schools vanderbilt mentioned for matching small #s and schools like colorado who matched 7 this year, what makes a school/their students more successful in the match?
people from Vanderbilt might assume they have a better chance bc their school is "better" or "higher in rankings" so may not try as hard on rotations or with creating connections. Personal opinion

vanderbilt only had 1 person apply derm this year << I imagine one of the reasons Colorado's med students had an easier time getting into Derm as because of the dermatoepidemiology research of Dr. Dellavalle where he cranks out publications like crazy.

The best schools match the best, maybe its school name maybe its cuz those ppl are cracked. I've heard my PD say that the top programs care more about med school rank

Last year there were 5 seats for SOAP but the match ended with 4 unfilled seats. Seems wild that programs didn't fill seats during the SOAP. Anyone know details about this?
They post the data but do not disclose which programs. I believe there was 1 A, 1 R and 3 C seats. In the end, only the 1 A seat was filled

One was the research spot at Colorado, one was in PR, idk about the rest

there was no actual seats open in soap. there was 1 colorado spot that they intentionally left unfilled for an internal to take and 3 spots from the puerto rico program
rank where you will be happy. Stop letting prestige and worrying what other people think pressure you

At this rate, we're all going private practice anyway, so just go to the spot that allows you to do FBSE's, cosmetics, accutane, and steroid ladders for AD

Really try to think where you'd be happiest! Try to picture yourself at both and which one would you regret less! like do you want to be in cali is that a priority

I'm from California but had really amazing interviews with other programs out of state. I know eventually I'll want to move back to California but there is hesitation with being in a new place

no matter what there will be some regret in either direction. Pick the one you will regret less, I stand by that. And we, unfortunately, cannot help you. We do not know you haha like only you know. get more info about the non-cali program!! talk to residents and visit the location if you can!> wisseee words boss thank youuuu it's such a weird time

> the right answer is do what's right for you. However, I relate to this struggle. I don't know if I should rank my favorite programs (which are North) or my favorite locations (which are South) LMAO. I think ultimately I'll choose sunlight over vibes personally :')

So much shade has been thrown at Colorado but I got an II… do I accept it? Or is the program really that toxic that I wouldn't want to train there?! Help!!
lmaooo same. happy to be interviewing so I'm keeping it >0/5 so far so be grateful :)

I definitely think it's better to go to that program THAN NOT go to any program! Definitely rank and enjoy the experience! If you match, then at the end of it all you'll still be a dermatologist :)

obvo interview. I think many people have heard from residents there that are unhappy (a few are very vocal) but match >>> not matched, good luck!! Plus toxic programs don't tend to be toxic forever, culture changes.

Did people still apply to Colorado this cycle? Feels like a lot of us avoided that program.
I say apply. Would you rather be a non-derm resident or a derm resident at a program with warning? Plus if a program dissolved (and fact check me on this), the residents are shifted to other residencies to finish

I met some Yale students and they have 12-14 graduating students applying derm and barely have the capacity to slot their own students into rotations, so no room for visitors

12-14 out of a 100-person class is gross

Yale requires home students to do 1 month elective inpatient and 1 month elective outpatient - probably a reason for the scheduling crunch.
