Sentiment score: 6.2 / 10

Applicants discuss Colorado's dermatology program with mixed sentiment, highlighting a notable administrative error involving multiple rejection emails sent to interviewed candidates. While the program itself receives praise from current residents and away rotators for strong clinical training, happy faculty/residents, excellent facilities, and good location, the interview process generated frustration due to delayed communications and the email mishap. The program appears competitive and well-regarded despite the logistical issues.

what makes some schools better at matching people into derm? seeing schools vanderbilt mentioned for matching small #s and schools like colorado who matched 7 this year, what makes a school/their students more successful in the match?

#35172025–2026 DermMar 25

people from Vanderbilt might assume they have a better chance bc their school is "better" or "higher in rankings" so may not try as hard on rotations or with creating connections. Personal opinion

Mar 25

Harvard matched 14, Hopkins 10 and Penn 10 -- I'm kinda seeing a pattern there lol

Mar 25

vanderbilt only had 1 person apply derm this year

Mar 25

14 is crazy

Mar 25

last year penn had almost 10 unmatched tho

Mar 25

UIC matched 7 which is impressive for mid tier

Mar 25

Harvard didn't match 14, matched 11.

Mar 25

vanderbilt only had 1 person apply derm this year << I imagine one of the reasons Colorado's med students had an easier time getting into Derm as because of the dermatoepidemiology research of Dr. Dellavalle where he cranks out publications like crazy.

Mar 26

The best schools match the best, maybe its school name maybe its cuz those ppl are cracked. I've heard my PD say that the top programs care more about med school rank

Mar 26

he left CO a few years ago so idk how many current applicants even worked with him

Mar 26

Harvard matched 11, some students went unmatched

Last year there were 5 seats for SOAP but the match ended with 4 unfilled seats. Seems wild that programs didn't fill seats during the SOAP. Anyone know details about this?

#30502025–2026 DermFeb 22

How do you know there were 5 open seats for SOAP?

Feb 22
0

They post the data but do not disclose which programs. I believe there was 1 A, 1 R and 3 C seats. In the end, only the 1 A seat was filled

Feb 22
0

One was the research spot at Colorado, one was in PR, idk about the rest

Feb 22
0

there was no actual seats open in soap. there was 1 colorado spot that they intentionally left unfilled for an internal to take and 3 spots from the puerto rico program

Mar 7

PR did not soap last yr

why is the new tally sheet not getting filled?

#29642025–2026 DermFeb 21

my rank list is changing at least once. A week

Feb 21

lol same, know my #1 but after that I keep changing

Feb 21

keep in mind the new tally sheet prevents mass entries so it's likely the original sheet had inflation.

Feb 21

because I dont want to log into my gmail in order to submit the survey, i dont trust anything right now

Am I dumb not to rank California programs higher than program I really liked but not in ideal place?

#20482025–2026 DermFeb 21

rank where you will be happy. Stop letting prestige and worrying what other people think pressure you

Feb 21
1

At this rate, we're all going private practice anyway, so just go to the spot that allows you to do FBSE's, cosmetics, accutane, and steroid ladders for AD

Feb 21
0

Really try to think where you'd be happiest! Try to picture yourself at both and which one would you regret less! like do you want to be in cali is that a priority

Feb 21
1

I'm from California but had really amazing interviews with other programs out of state. I know eventually I'll want to move back to California but there is hesitation with being in a new place

Feb 21
0

no matter what there will be some regret in either direction. Pick the one you will regret less, I stand by that. And we, unfortunately, cannot help you. We do not know you haha like only you know. get more info about the non-cali program!! talk to residents and visit the location if you can!> wisseee words boss thank youuuu it's such a weird time

Feb 21

it is im with you weird feeling life changing decisions

Feb 21

> the right answer is do what's right for you. However, I relate to this struggle. I don't know if I should rank my favorite programs (which are North) or my favorite locations (which are South) LMAO. I think ultimately I'll choose sunlight over vibes personally :')

So much shade has been thrown at Colorado but I got an II… do I accept it? Or is the program really that toxic that I wouldn't want to train there?! Help!!

#15792025–2026 DermFeb 21

you can give it to me

Feb 21
0

lmaooo same. happy to be interviewing so I'm keeping it >0/5 so far so be grateful :)

Feb 21
0

exactly there are people who love to have this interview so practice gratitude

Feb 21

I definitely think it's better to go to that program THAN NOT go to any program! Definitely rank and enjoy the experience! If you match, then at the end of it all you'll still be a dermatologist :)

Feb 21

obvo interview. I think many people have heard from residents there that are unhappy (a few are very vocal) but match >>> not matched, good luck!! Plus toxic programs don't tend to be toxic forever, culture changes.

Feb 21

II for Colorado came as an email from the PC. WHat time??

Did people still apply to Colorado this cycle? Feels like a lot of us avoided that program.

#15662025–2026 DermFeb 21

Feb 21

tons of peds derm, low procedural volume, toxic faculty

To apply or not apply to programs with accreditation warnings?

#8652025–2026 DermFeb 21

I say apply. Would you rather be a non-derm resident or a derm resident at a program with warning? Plus if a program dissolved (and fact check me on this), the residents are shifted to other residencies to finish

Feb 21

umm list the programs here pls

does anyone know why some schools haven't posted their NRMP codes/institution altogether on ERAS yet and when this will happen? (e.g. Stanford, Colorado, etc.)

Why are Yale/Colorado/other schools not offering away rotations? Very annoying and unsure how to build connections at these schools...

#572025–2026 DermFeb 21

recently matched M4 here just checking the aways tab for my M3 friend and wondered the same thing!! also, best of luck to everyone applying this cycle!! y'all got this!!

Feb 21

I met some Yale students and they have 12-14 graduating students applying derm and barely have the capacity to slot their own students into rotations, so no room for visitors

Feb 21

for my school

Feb 21
1

crazy how there's so much fluctuation from year to year, my school has almost 3x the normal amount of applicants

Feb 21

12-14 out of a 100-person class is gross

Feb 21

Yale requires home students to do 1 month elective inpatient and 1 month elective outpatient - probably a reason for the scheduling crunch.
