In regards to the UW confusion, I interviewed at U of Washington and the PD specifically stated there would be no post-interview communication. I can't speak for Wisconsin.

What anonymous posters said
Anonymous posters frequently confused this program with University of Wisconsin, leading to repeated clarifications. Several posts describe mixed interview outcomes (invites, rejections, waitlist) and note the optional supplemental application was not sent to all applicants. Commenters described the program as strong in medical dermatology but less focused on cosmetics, with on-call/consult workload described as being on the higher end.

So to clarify- was it University of Washington that made RTM calls?
Who said it was U of Washington? I’ve never seen u of Washington abbreviated UW, just WUSTL
12. University of Washington did RTM post-interview communicationw
UW Madison Dermatology should be coming out around October 14 (that's around the time I got mine last year, I think they are one of the first to do invites/rejections)
Because I have no life, no friends, no hobbies, and I need to come on this site everyday to feel alive
me_irl
me too bruh
i think you rejections/invites come out on the same day
Why do you get anxious? It's ONE Derm program. Good grief, you all are wound up WAYY too tight.| wow yea people need to relax, someone's just trying to give us helpful info... x5 |
UW Optional Supplement
"optional" x5
It says 100 words max but then the box to type your answer says 500 characters max. Should we keep it to only 500 characters then? That's hard to do!
Is there a hard stop in terms of the box when it comes to characters?
It lets you type over the limit but then it tells you in red how many characters over you are. I don't know if it'll actually let you submit. I kept it to under 500 since the directions on the site state both 100 words and 500 characters. Also nothing is ever optional...lol
Doesnt let you submit unless strict 500 character limit met
So I guess the 100 words max limit in the prompt is an error? Just FYI, 500 characters = 250 words, not 100 words.
Nope it's like 3 sentences max and around 100 words (depends on your word choice I guess)
ugh it feels like a waste of time applying here. so much inbreeding at UWashingtom
Oh wow. I had no idea. 6 out of the 10 current residents are UW graduates and 3 out of the 4 spots went to UW students last year
Also FYI one of their four spots this year will go to someone who has already finished intern year
Is this University of Washington or University of Wisconsin? Did they mail the supplement?| University of Washington. Not all applicants received the supplement :(
Wait, so the University of Washington supplemental did not go out to all applicants?
does anyone know if these supplements (e.g. u washington, indiana, U Conn) are sent to every applicant?
sounds like it
I didn't get a UW supplement :(
If we were already rejected from Wake, is that a bad sign for the rest of the application cycle? Any previous year applicants able to comment?
Did rejections already go out?
see above comment about LORs as method of first round app evaluation
Wow. So if we got rejected so fast, it means our letters suck? That is somehow more unsettling to me than if it had been a Step/AOA screen...| are you seriously expecting an interview invite from every derm program? you're not special. get over it
Yikes... calm down.
Probably statisically the majority of us will be getting 6-11 interviews or so, so it's OK to be rejected a lot
My question was more whether it bodes poorly to be in the first round of rejections. Obviously majority of applicants will be rejected by majority of programs. I am fully aware that I am a thoroughly average applicant.
Hey man, don't mind Mr. Crankypants over here. We're all in this together
I doubt that being rejected in first wave means you suck the most....they probably split all the apps into chunks and go through them in groups, and decide which out of each group they want to interview/reject
<-I got a first round of Wake Forest rejections but UWisc invite, so I don't think it means anything,
That makes me feel better! Thanks!
Are you talking Univ of Washington or UWisc for the invite?
UWisc - UWash won't go out for a while
you guys really need to try and not take every rejection personally. If you apply to every program, even if you get 15 interviews which is absolutely outstanding, you still get >100 rejections. if you take every one personally, you are in for a very long and depressing application cycle. even applicants with the most amazing stats get tons of rejections..... there are SO many things that go into the decision besides stats, different programs value different things and they can only interview so many people. hang in there!
Current derm resident here who's involved in reviewing applications. Believe me, when I say, getting rejected does not mean you have a weak application. Even tippy top applicants will get >50% rejections and most of you will (if you applied to all programs), get > 90% rejections. Programs don't interview many applicants and tend to preference people they know (rotators, home students, etc.) or those who have regional or local connections (especially for non-top programs). If you're Wake Forest, for instance, do you really think that top Harvard applicant who grew up in California is trying to move to Winston-Salem. Would you want to waste one of your say, 25 interview spots on that person (no idea how many they interview).
The people reviewing applications are certainly not taking chances with their limited interview spots, especially when they know people are applying to 100+ programs. Most applicants who are rejected are probably more upset about the concept of rejection and what that means to their anxiety and ego, not really about the program itself.
UWash invites went out? external or internal? someone updated the sheet!
Yep! External x2
External, just put in the rest of the info, not the person who originally posted
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your loved ones x3
You as well, friend!
and a happy Thanksgiving message from University of Washington :)
Ahh, nothing like a late night rejection to cap off day
Wow only 28 interviews?
They are a bit headstrong this year I see. Hope they picked well, cause they didnt pick me.
rejection here as wellllll woot woot
They mostly take internals
Did anyone interviewing at UW not get a confirmation email yet? :/
UW rejection x1
University of Washington impressions?
MCW vs UW Madison, thinking of general derm
Did all people who interviewed at UW-Madison get the update email about a week ago? YesX3| Was the phone call from MCW a RTM call? x2

Why would you tell us this and increase our anxiety
