Madison, WI
Sentiment score: 6.8 / 10
Applicants discuss University of Wisconsin and Medical College of Wisconsin as separate programs, with UW Madison being compared favorably to other top dermatology programs, particularly for procedural and Mohs training. The program sends interview invites and rejections in waves, with some applicants receiving care packages. Overall sentiment is neutral to positive, with UW Madison considered a competitive program worth ranking highly on match lists.
✅1. Faculty and interviewers were so warm and kind. They seem to be genuinely support of residents and their interests. Interviews were conversational and it was evident that they took the time to read my application and ask about my interests/hobbies. Residents also seemed super tight-knit and hang out alot outside of clinics.
✅2. Amazing program! Truly a gem, and I'm sad that I didn't match here. Faculty are world-class and leaders, great subspecialty clinic, and nice clinic spaces. The program leadership are all very welcoming and friendly, and you can tell that they really enjoy each other's company. Would highly recommend to anyone!

With respect to the cell below, can you help me rank the best programs for cosmetics: NW, UW, UCSD, UM, Vanderbilt
Definitely not UW. I feel like programs with most cosmetic exposure (and demand) are in larger cities than Madison WI. I'd guess UCSD probably has a decent amount
UW is in Seattle
I hear NW has a lot of cosmetics but i didnt apply there
lol there are 2 UWs
definitely not UMich, in the interview they specifically cited their lack of cosmetics
NW or Mich probs
for exposure to cosmetics?
UW madison or UW washington? washington literally said during interviews not to go there if you want to do cosmetics, they're very strong in the med-derm arena tho
Vanderbilt interview day said they have increasing cosmetic exposure and the ability to do 3-4 weeks working with someone who does alot of cosmetics.
NW also mentioned strong cosmetics

Those who interveiwed with UWisconsin today, how was it?
mostly pretty chill, a bit thrown off that there were multiple interviewers per room and every single question was standardized, also it seems like everyone got cut off since we were running out of time
Yes got cut off at every interview
Not interviewing at Wisco but from my interviews at other programs they've also been getting cut off like mid sentence. I think this is pretty average and sometimes my interviewer gets cut off in the middle of a word so i feel like they are understanding

MCW UP> gg all, see you at 5:30 for UW madison
Does MCW or U of Wisconsin only release interviews today?
i believe just today
okay i cry
can we compile a list of places that are anticipated to release invites nov 3rd??
duke, penn, mcw, univ of arkansas, hopkins, UNC, OSU, UPMC
wait penn is 11/3???
also Baylor, Geisinger, Mayo, Cornell, Northwestern (?), Ohio State, Arkansas, UT San Antonio, Wisconsin, Virginia Tech
pretty sure penn is 12/1
isn't Yale traditionally 11/3?
per the spreadsheet, 11/17

Anyone know if Wisconsin is virtual/in-person interviews, website is not specific?
virtual last year
UW is virtual this year
If I want to do Mohs what would be the best programs to look into? Ik some "top" programs discourage/don't support students interested in it and it's a red flag to mention in interviews lol. Overall been told to look at programs with a fellowship associated with a residency but would be helpful to know of specific ones people have heard about that are supportive with high Mohs match rates
Iowa, Mayo Rochester, Wisconsin (the best ones for Mohs and surgical and procedural training in general)
some of the best Mohs faculty in the country are at these programs and they have historically consistently high match rates and support
Top programs definitely support mohs fellowship as most of the people who get into mohs go to a relatively top program
i've heard for example programs like stanford, emory, and duke aren't supportive based on the name and shame/why I didn't rank higher so was curious if there programs known to be supportive
some of those you just listed aren't necessarily top derm programs, Emory is in the t15 and Stanford is consistently t5-t10 but Duke isn't t15 but more to your point Duke doesn't have a Mohs fellowship and notoriously some of these programs are more about complex med derm and have picky Mohs teaching faculty
last minute struggle - MCW vs. Wisconsin??
MCW vs UWisconsin
for those with U wisconsin interviews tomorrow, does it start at 8:15 CST? Also, where is the recording for the info sesh? TIA
That Wisconsin info session sent via email is just for interviewees right? Not all interested/future applicants? Was unclear to me
How did 3 people get acceptnaces to univ of wisconsin today for aways? On my VSLO is says their app doesnt open until April 31st
Where are these APD application guidelines posted?<look at last years spreadsheet there was a whole discussion about it
Here: https://students-residents.aamc.org/media/12386/download. Keep in mind that these are GUIDELINES/RECOMMENDATIONS & are not binding on derm residency programs, and often derm residency websites will say whether they follow it or not, like U of Wisconsin-Madison: https://dermatology.wisc.edu/2022/06/21/apd-statement-for-application-cycle/
For the middle of my ROL -- Wisconsin or Minnesota first? I have a family with two kids in grade school and programs in each of these states were comparible to me. Would be happy to be either place. Any comments on living in either of these states? (I have never lived in the midwest) < I would go with Minnesota over Wisconsin, unless you want to go for Pediatric Dermatology where having Beth Drolet writing a letter for you may allow you to match to a highly ranked prestigious Pedi Derm place. < you can match at any peds derm place with whatever letters < That's why I said "highly ranked prestigious" Pedi Derm programs
