NYU Grossman is consistently mentioned as a top-5 dermatology program with strong clinical training, particularly at Bellevue, though applicants report mixed experiences regarding resident happiness, work-life balance, and long hours. The program generates significant discussion around interview logistics, ranking decisions, and comparisons to peer institutions like Harvard, Penn, and UCSF, with some applicants praising faculty engagement while others cite concerns about resident satisfaction and program culture.
Fame & Shame
2025–2026 Derm
2 entries❌1. Very fucking weird vibes while rotating there. Attendings are nice to your face, harsh behind your back. Residents (including chiefs) are talking shit about certain nurses. Everyone can be super cold (esp some of the nurses? idk maybe just a NYC thing). Residents ask you to do little personal errands not related to patient care.
💬1. Might be a NYC thing with the nurses; they've been on strike in the past few months and tensions been building up. Frequent discussions on r/residency about the dynamic between NYC nurses and residents. > personal errands sounds like some bullshit > a friend who did an away there told me he was asked to help with picking up a resident's child lol > that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard respectfully a crazy thing to ask a med student
what type of voodoo manifestation do.i need to do to match NYU (im mid and slightly awkward)

get cracked
go to their med school and prematch as an MS2
they prematch ms2s?
yeah they have the 3 year residency pipeline program where you apply for residency early before matriculation / during m1 / during m2
Would someone like to switch with my NYU rotation in October? Looking for either September or November!
yes text me 985-807-7676!!!
Which derm programs have the best cosmetics training? I've scoured some of the past sheets/SDN and sometimes UCI, Kaiser LA, and Samaritan are mentioned. Any others?
saw in previous sheets that cosmetics were top-notch at nyu, especially compared to other t5s
Yes for UCI and Kaiser LA! I'm not familiar with Samaritan
anyone know what nyu is looking for in applicants? it's my dream program but i don't have any connections
Idk what they are looking for, but the residents seem so happy esp for a t5. one can dream sigh
PSA, there are some programs like NYU and Stanford that are not on VSLO, they have their own sites for aways. So if you're really interested in a specific program, look up what system they use for away applications, dont' assume it will show up on VSLO unless that's what they've been doing every year
Stanford is on VSLO they are just done taking apps. I believe NYU also already closed
when will nyu decisions be out? have ppl heard?
got an offer from NYU but in november they say interviews aren't guaranted do people still usually get interviews
would you be willing to switch your NYU in november to september text me 985-807-7676
anyone hear from NYU?
Are the T5 programs equal in impressiveness (UCSF = Penn = Harvard = NYU = Yale/Stanford) or is there an internal tier difference with one group being significantly better than the others?
The best one is the one you like the most (+/- the one in the city you like the most)
This obsession with T5s, jeez. If it makes you happy, great! At the end of the day you will be a dermatologis though. People from not T5s end up as faculty at T5s all the time, and many T5 residents end up going into private practice.
when people say t5 programs, are they referring to doximity lists (penn, ucsf, harvard. nyu. yale?)
yes, stanford in there too. there are really 6 T5 programs.
if you care about prestige... i wish you well
nyu just announced a pay increase fml
how much?
almost 10k for a pgy1
where did you find that?
friend is resident in different specialty
what's pay for pgy2 now haha
Loveee seeing my top choice program get bashed on here because I absolutely loved my away there and it's in my favorite city <3, I appreciate you guyss
uams? Uconn?
lowkey curious as well, willing to drop what region?
no to both, it's east coast major US city
NYU
What’s the NYU tea? The fame & shame is suspiciously empty

any residencies with childcare associated?
daycare at nyu/bellevue is loved by residents!
is it true that UCSF residents manage attendings' inbox? < yes> what about NYU?
UCSF residents manage an attendings inbox all together when they're on that specialty clinics rotation. It's not every month or every clinic + they're given protected time (separate from regular academic time) to do it
UCSF does not manage attending inbox
NYU only manages inbox for patients they have seen in clinic
do you know if you get academic/admin time at nyu
yes you do
thank you!
CCF residents also only manage inboxs for patients they have seen in clinic and are also given protected administrative time.

post-interview medstar tea?
resident suicide(s) in the past? idk, i cant find much info on it.
Resident has also been terminated in the program before.
what do you have to do to get terminated damn < idk, but there was also an nyu resident who terminated before. it was a whole thing on this spreadsheet a few years ago.
i heard the same with mt sinai and stanford a couple years back
i heard the same with mt sinai and stanford a couple years back
i was scrolling and noticed that there are a number of posts that mention how stanford is "not prestigious" and "not really a t5" with no comments to back that up and the postiive post about stanford vs ucsf got deleted. im not saying these patterns are shady, but im not not saying it. and yes, i can read doximity, but the point stands.
Stanford has an unmatched brand name and is, non-negotiably, a top program. Anyone who tries to convince you not to go there likely has ill intentions
agreed. same with UCSF, Penn, NYU, Harvard, etc.
the person was asking Stanford vs ucsf and others commented they'll be ranking Stanford over ucsf. Felt like several people said that
I think patterns are very shady, OP. haha.
lmao
imagine being in the position to get to choose ucsf or stanford COULDNT BE ME must be nice
A lot of mental masturbation and obsession over what the top programs are and comparing them. As a derm resident, I will say to be grateful if you match anywhere and be extra grateful if you match at one of your top choices/place you really liked + 10002
Some posts are shown because their comments mention this program.
