Sentiment score: 6.2 / 10
Applicants discuss University of Iowa's interview timeline, RTM (ranked to match) calls, and acceptance decisions with mixed experiences. The program receives recognition as a solid mid-tier dermatology program with strong surgical training and faculty, though some applicants express concerns about location diversity and quality of life in Iowa City. There is notable frustration about perceived preference for home students and debate about the program's actual tier ranking.
✅1. Interviewers were super nice and interviews were low-stress and conversational. Very well-rounded program with robust surgical, cosmetic, and medical dermatology exposure.
✅2. Honestly such a hidden gem, so underrated, despite it's location so much exposure to so many different aspects of derm both medical and procedural. Great people within the program! Really not sure how this program doesn't have more hype!
❌1. To be transparent the parking situation really does suck, you have to park far away then shuttle into the hospital. Not ideal when it's dark and cold. Also Iowa City and the surrounding towns give a nice college town vibe but definitely not for everyone!

what is the best program for mohs?
iowa
have heard Miami has a really high Mohs match rate and strong procedural training
I think they have one Mohs spot per year, but yea some years match 3-4 into Mohs
i heard geisinger basically guarnantees home students match there
is there a resource to research different mohs fellowships?
there is no such thing as a "best" program for Mohs
there are several programs that save their Mohs spot for their internals
Anyone know whether Iowa will have 6 or 7 spots this year?
For those who went to Iowa second look earlier this month - what were the vibes like?> did they invite everyone that interviewed there?

Current residents: is there any chance of second look attendance or absence influencing rank order lists?
Which schools ARE having second looks? Which ones are for sure NOT having second looks?
Vandy, Jeff, Iowa IS MedStar, Duke, Northwestern are NOT Cleveland Clinic you can message to set one up
I tried to fill this out in the X v Y but does anyone have any tea or info on Iowa, seems like a decent program but my god is it in the middle of nowhere, just wondering what the program is like
great spot for Mohs surgery! Iowa is a strangely great program despite its isolation. It's a spot where I say "well it's only 3 years" when ranking
cute college town that loves football, but not a lot of SOC exposure> Great program in beautiful area
Any tea on Iowa?
seems like a crazy good program with tons of MOHS exposure
seems like parking can be an issue and the location may be quite dull
iowa city's quite cute for a college town>no board certified peds derm, food options in the city is pretty limited, groceries are less diverse, not the best if you are foodies, also, less skin of color, 3 weeks of vocation
why does iowa quota show as 5 on NRMP, thought they were taking 7?
they said 6 on the interview, they were not sure if they were going to be able to take 7
how would they not know how many theyre taking this deep in the process huh
trying to find the money for it, maybe?

Anyone interview at Iowa yet? What was it like?
very relaxed
can you offer anything more than that
10 min each with 2 faculty per room for each, 1-2 quesitons per room and they were all pretty standard interview questions, interview was more conversational

great program for Mohs! They have really good surgical training and in-house fellowship
known to be one of the best in the country for MOHS applicants just because they have so many powerhouse MOHS surgeons as faculty
im surprised in iowa
