I'm nosey, did the med fluencers match?
devore did not
devore did not>what did she match?> idk her "match" video told us nothing lol
she matched her home prelim IM (pitt). its on a Pitt IM res IG post
Pittsburgh, PA
Sentiment score: 5.2 / 10
Applicants express mixed views about UPMC's dermatology program. While the program is recognized for strong Mohs surgery training (affiliated with renowned surgeon Zitelli) and MD/PhD recruitment, there are concerns about resident satisfaction, disorganization (particularly regarding interview scheduling and leadership changes), and perceptions that internal candidates receive preferential treatment. Interview logistics and communication from the program have been problematic, with many applicants reporting delays in receiving interview confirmations and date assignments.
✅1. Good vibes and program support seems solid, imo very collegial relationships between attendings and residents

asking bc no info on program info page! anyone have more info for Pittsburgh/UPMC? (Like how many admin days a week, didactics are when and how long, do they cover inboxes, call schedule, do residents feel that there is enough dermpath/cosmetics/etc coverage)
what is everyone doing while we wait. these next 25 days are gonna be so long
busy rotations = no time to think about match
I'm big chilling, gonna try to get into good shape focus on my health and relax
I'm working on my cut and watching the Pitt (LibMaxxing hard over here)
rewatching heated rivalry (again)
what is pittsburgh program like
also curious feel like I know the least and the interview was the shortest
yes i know 0
Can we make a list in the cell to the right of places whose derm interview automatically counts as your interview for a prelim/TY year too?
Penn State, Northwestern, Yale (kind of), Georgetown, Ohio State, Brown, Cleveland Clinic, UPMC, UTHSC (tennessee), Zucker/Northwell, Emory, Mizzou, WVU, Dartmouth
wait I didn't know about Northwestern, are we sure?
northwestern med derm counts for prelim.
Penn state does??
yes Penn state does, presented to us on interview day
what about northwestern regular Derm/peds derm> NW med derm counts for advanced derm NW position + med derm position. NOT prelim. You can ask to be considered for categorical IM, but that was not guaranteed by just applying.
Exact wording: "We are very excited to welcome you to the Northwestern University combined Medicine-Dermatology interviews, which also serves as interviews for either the categorical Medicine and/or advanced Dermatology tracks, if you have applied to either of those Northwestern programs. "

any insight to how upmc prelim and ty programs work? do you automatically get interviews for both if you get a derm interview and when do they let you know
there are no interviews - you are just considered and ranked based on how your advanced program is ranking you
do you automatically get considered for both the prelim and TY?

Do all programs give their residents dermatoscopes?> lol no I know a program where every resident shares a singular dermatoscope
Do they share every patient too lol> No they just learn almost no dermoscopy and the attendings use their own in the room for the final dx :/
That's fucking gay
which programs provide dermatoscope (stony brook mentioned it specifically that they provide)
some programs only provide educational stipends that you buy your scope with, which is different from getting a whole dermatoscope btw
lol is this Minnesota?> lol no I wish...that just means there are more programs like this out there tho
Minnesota has dermatoscopes available at every site, so the residents are trained in using them. UPMC gives every resident their own!

Thoughts on programs that interview all rotators?
depends some places like UF and Emory that interview all their rotators have a good chance of matching there because they are very selective on who they pick and they have a good track record of matching rotators, also they don't have too many rotators - Conversely, programs like UConn who have a ton of rotators and interview all of them, you don't really know if you have a good shot, also based on tea on this spreadsheet there's nepotism rumors, research fellows, etc. so your chances at a program like that may be lower and can give applicants false hope
anyone know about upmc?
UF interviews most of their rotators but also interviews a significant amount of non-rotators, plus away/gold seem to weigh less post-interview there. Certainly better than a lot of other programs but there are programs that only interview internals and more heavily weigh away/gold/etc post-interview as well. ^ It's the best when a program is very selective with away rotators and then interviews them all because it means you already have a high shot at being ranked. Places that take a ton of rotators and intreview all as a courtesy = waste of time for everyone and waste of hope.
what counts as a high number of away rotators? 20+? 30+?
some programs take 6 aways per month so do with that what you will
great bc they give you an interview! Not great if it doesn't correlate with true shot at a decent place on the rank list. But there's no true way to know and we will never know how the pie is made as applicants so whatever
Reapplicant here, from what ive seen from my away rotations and who they matched: my experience, they definitely take at least 1 away rotator depending on number of spots the program has. If they have internals + away rotators with better stats or from better schools with decent personalities, might not go your way. if you are one of those rotators with great stats and they don't have too many internals then you're in a great place to possibly match there
also depends on how the internals rank them - can't assume that all of the internals actually want to go there
. on OP's question, what programs interview all rotators?
Harbor-
not true. would say it's more accurate to say that all applicants interviewed will have done an away rotation. similar to Kaiser LA
where do we find number of away rotators a prgram takes per year?
theres a sidebar on some of the VSLO apps that show how many they accept per month, and then from there you can roughly calculate

how did people feel about UPMC derm interview
They were very nice to me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
it was so quick
POOP
it was so quick
what is UPMC inetrveiw like
wish i knew....at least you'll know in the future go you!
Does anyone know if there is a list of prelims / TYs that automatically consider you for their institution's prelim/TY or their derm interview counts as the prelim/TY interview? Sitting at one TY and one prelim but a few derms and want to know if I should go into ERAS and add them or if I should worry more :P
emory and Pitt, GW (if you applied to linked prelim-derm), henry ford, penn state
uconn, Henry Ford
oh so if you didn't get uconn prelim, does that mean you probably won't get derm?

Is there anyone else interviewing for Pitt this coming Wednesday and still don't have any information?
Also have not yeard anything yet
Are folks emailing again tomorrow for their NW II date prefereces? Or if we already emailed is that probably okay?
Why would you email them twice ?
In case they don't count the first one bc it was before the apd guidelines said scheduling could happen (weds)
i emailed Monday for pitt and am assuming it counts since they didn't say we had to wait x2

So to confirm, Cornell and Pitt aren't out?
a lie i believe
can we just be transparent and stop the personality disorders?
I got an II but internal. I think it's possible only internals heard back today
for Cornell or Pitt?
