Fame & Shame
2025–2026 Derm
2 entries❌1. 10 weeks of consults, covering VUMC + children's hospital. You're truly on your own, walking all over the place with no cap on number of consults. The consult room is a janky addition to the outside of a research building, with no access to running water. For some reason, the rest of the building is not directly accessible by card, and you have to go across the courtyard to the outpatient clinics for a bathroom. Two of the attendings are perfectionists for whom nothing you do will ever be good enough. Other than these 10 weeks during PGY-2, a relatively normal residency experience.
❌2. I think it's more than the 10 weeks during the second year of derm. during my away there was a second resident in a different year on consults too.

Anyone planning on dropping Vanderbilt? Family is there and PD just told me they’ll give me a call if anyone drops. Thanks!
Is anyone planning on dropping their Vanderbilt interview? If so, would you please do so? I know it’s a lot to ask, but I’m on the waitlist and it would be my top choice.
for anyone who already did vandy interview, did you get out right at 5pm?
idk if this is even a thing but someone said it was: looking to switch a cush TY for a prelim in or around vanderbilt/TN
Wow. It looks like we have a big week coming up, guys. Based on last year's estimates, maybe up to 20 programs might be sending out invites!!!
Vanderbilt invite!!!! (rotated there) I Congrats! x2 Any externals receive Vandy?
Stanford invite!!! Holy crap. Through ERAS - 1/12/18.
andddddddddd... cue the delusional outrage.
Congrats! x1
Internal or external?
Internal
External x2
hmmm stanford doesn't traditionally use ERAS for invites
The email was through ERAS but there was no ERAS scheduling (since there's only 1 date)
the denial is apparently still alive and well here
But... but... It's November, which is the 11th month of the year, and 1=2, where the 2nd letter in Stanford is "t," meaning that Stanford gives out invites on Tuesdays. IT'S A TROLL, EVERYBODY!
Stanford typically does internals on separate date - not this year?
Stanford didn't release anything lol
are you sure, how do you know? Was this the troll too? I was wondering ... MODERATORS: any news on whether this stanford thing was a troll or not?
Please don't let this turn into a UCSF-style debacle. I got an interview - you can choose to believe it or not. I love how no one questions Case Western, Vandy, or Minnesota.
Thanks! I believe you, was just confused by all these unhelpful comments. Do you mind telling me if you're external or an internal student/away rotator? I really appreciate it.
No problem, external with ties to CA I thanks!!
Has any non-rotator external recieved an interview invite at Vandy?
Hey mnahg mhyui. Don't resolve other posters' comments without copying and pasting them in.
Vanderbilt external x1 (non-eras email) on 11/13
Vanderbilt invite, external, non rotator x3
Out of nothing but sheer curiosity: What kinds of interviews did you guys get? Were they all within a certain location/connection or within a certain tier of program?
Personally, it was very random for me location/tier/size/strengths/etc x2
Got all the local programs, and then a random mix of size/ strengths/ tiers
Mainly in same tier with a few lower tier local programs
Local interviews, east coast only (where I am from).
</-- can anyone comment on whether they thought away rotations helped them in securing interviews @ certain programs (ms3 here starting to think about where to do aways)
Vanderbilt and Emory are both great away rotations and programs and guarantee you an interview. Georgetown (Washington Hospital Center) also interviews all of their rotators.
I would avoid programs that haurantee interviews. If they grant all rotators an interview, you don't know if its a courtesy interview or if they are actually interested which wastes your time and money. It also comes with the opportunity cost of competing for interviews at another away rotation
Looking back I wish I didn't rotate at places that guaranteed an interview for this reason.
I completely disagree. I chose places I was guaranteed an interview so that I didn't waste my time. I also got letters from my aways which made my interview actually mean something since I had to work closely with the PDs to get a letter. But I also chose NOT to do aways at top 20 institutions for the exact reason people mentioned. Just be smart and do aways where you'd want to go and rock them.
I find it hard to believe "courtesy" interviews are not legitimate interviews-as valuable as a dermatologist's time is, they wouldn't simply waste it just to be nice to an applicant they know stands no chance. Unless there's credible info from a selection committee member on here or online an interview is still an interview.
I chose to do 4 away rotations. 2 at places where interviews are guarenteed and 2 where they are not. I think this approach helped me. I got letters from my aways, including a very reputable doc and this has been brought up at EVERY single derm interview.
It is absolutely a fact that courtesy interviews exist. There are people interviewed on interview day that have previously been assigned "do not rank" status
Vandy sent out invite x2
Vandy invite out!
