Fame & Shame
2025–2026 Derm
3 entries❌1. Honestly so hit or miss with the faculty. Some are incredibly kind and some are so bizarre. During the interview, one of the Mohs surgeons just went on bizarre tangents, asked random unrelated questions, and I heard she did this to others too (someone said she made them sing on the spot during the interview??). One of the other interviewers just straight up NRMP violationed and asked me explicitly where I did my aways, if I was considering my hometown/undergrad institution for residency and if I applied there, which was super awkward to navigate. PD seems nice but also a little awkward. Tons of faculty turnover the last few years.
❌2. Program is in a rebuild phase, having lost many faculty and mostly newer faculty.
💬1. Makes sense that chasing prestige means you have socially inept or egotistic folks, who can get away with poor behavior because of entitlement and name brand. It's our job to avoid paying it forward and chase out toxicity+1 > Lol Hopkins as a derm dpt doesnt live up to its undergrad/med school rep. They've also lost some of their top tier faculty and are sorta in a rebuild phase. Anyone chasing Hopkins for the undergrad rep is kinda hilarious

Man that Hopkins interview day was loooonnnggg
and just like that ladies and gents, we have a new #1 program. NW was such a delightful experience < NU or NW? < Chicago and #1 program are mutually exclusive my friend < i know, trust me but they are killing me here with how great experience it was < I love a little mugging with my morning walk. < mugging with -10 wind chill on the side < delicious < i feel like we rained on OPs parade a little and i'm sorry OP, glad you liked the program and hope u end up there and love it < kinda like the rain in chicago? < OP: nah they actually covered all the reasons my family is looking at me like I'm high rn after i told them I liked NW so I definitely hear you guys haha < Hopkins & NW are at the bottom of my list for these exact reasons. I choose life, thx < did you also interview at both today? i hated hopkins so at least that part is figured out for me < You aren't getting shot walking around Northwestern. It's in the cushiest part of Chicago. The rent is like SF levels in Streeterville and the most basic grocery store is a Whole Foods. < People must be mixing up Northwestern and U Chicago, very different areas < lol we are not mixing anything up. We know NW itself is in a boujie part of town but people will have lives outside the immediate NW area< outside the NW area is fine, stay away from the southside and westside (not including south loop or west loop)
anyone else not love hopkins after their interview day lol
back to the other question though, why is NW (NU whatever) interviewing as many people as hopkins when they have like half the # spots < because there's 14 internal applicants plus and eff ton of research fellows and gap years < sure but it is still for 4 spots < they must fall pretty low on their rank list to interview so many
hopkins gave me $10 gc and GW gave me $40 swag. Who would have thunk it
When in Johns Hopkins last interview? < 1/12
how did people who interviewed at hopkins today think it went? < too long, most hadn't read my app, and it was repetitive but they were nice
does hopkins really only interview 45 people for 7 spots?
Can anyone out there switch Miami interview dates? I have 1/12 but really trying to get 1/5..... would be dropping SUNY downstate if so!!! and possibly Hopkins as well... if anyone is on waitlist plsssss. also posted in swap tab
anyone not yet hear back from Hopkins after accepting interview invite?
hopkins interviews 45 for 7 spots? good odds then huh? < relatively, yeah, and at a super strong program too! Not like UCSF's odds though (~20 for 6-8) < How do we know how many Hopkins is interviewing? Also UCSF interviews 26 for clinical spots, and then another 10 for research < RE says hopkins interviews 60+ < their website says 45< you guys make up so much data. UCSF's website legitametly says 22-24 clinical track interviews and 8-10 physician scientist interviews so 34 max
is john hopkins in a bad area? is baltimore safe?<if you call it john hopkins thats an immediate R < there are better areas and worse areas but it's not like super unsafe.
What's the "research panel" on Hopkins interview day? Is it us talking about our research or them telling us about their research opportunities?
Just got Hopkins confirmation> still waiting on University of Washington
