Applicants discuss U Minnesota's competitive dermatology program with mixed experiences regarding interview invitations, rejections, and program ranking. The program appears selective with inconsistent communication about interview scheduling and supplement requirements, and is generally positioned as a mid-to-upper tier program in dermatology rankings.

1 entry❌1. The chair asked some interesting political questions during the interview. Overall most faculty very nice though.
need some help ranking programs that are in the middle of my list: Henry Ford, Minnesota, Ohio State, and UConn, don't really have connections to these places and haven't ever been to the midwest before lolol, any thoughts on these programs and how to rank?
Been told to rank the middle more so based on location
sounds good, yeah haven't been to any of these cities and hard to tell program vibes from the interviews, any thoughts about any of these programs?
I think a lot of it will come down to personal preference? Ex., for me personally, I'd prioritize programs in areas where I don't have connections that are next to a bigger airport to make it easier to see family/friends; city size and demographics are also something to consider
Columbus, OH is a great city to live in, great football and has an airport. Winters aren't as brutal as MN. Would recommend
disagree, I think Columbus Ohio sucks ass. But it's probably better than Detroit or Minnesota

SERIOUS: with the events in Minnesota occurring are people considering that when ranking programs (assuming you got interviewed by Minnesota)?
probably unpopular opinion but it's moved MN up on my list. Their sense of community and resistance is inspiring.
It's now my bottom 3
id venture to say its a good thing to see the community rally for each other and defend their own lol less of a MN problem more of a federal government state sponsored murder and kidnap problem
it does seem like for whatever reason MN currently is being heavily targeted by ICE?
they want to target Walz

Can anyone in Minnesota talk about how safe they feel the state is? Interviewed at Mayo and really liked the program, but with all the news recently in MN, wondering if I should consider that into rank, esp as a POC
its so safe you wont see anyone except a bear
as a POC in MN I can say that I generally feel safe,w ith what's going on right now the activity is certainly more concentrated in different areas of town, but what i will say is MN really looks after their neighbors and community so they've helped me to feel right at home but we're all a lil shook rn tbh lol (also, this isn't just a MN specific problem ) >Just don't try to run ICE over with your car and you'll be fine -7 >I disagree with the last comment, u won't be fine, the most recent news is really disturbing
ok i saw what you posted underneath adding more im sorry i took that as a moment for a joke
if your joke was the one about seeing a bear, you're fine lol

Do all programs give their residents dermatoscopes?> lol no I know a program where every resident shares a singular dermatoscope
Do they share every patient too lol> No they just learn almost no dermoscopy and the attendings use their own in the room for the final dx :/
That's fucking gay
which programs provide dermatoscope (stony brook mentioned it specifically that they provide)
some programs only provide educational stipends that you buy your scope with, which is different from getting a whole dermatoscope btw
lol is this Minnesota?> lol no I wish...that just means there are more programs like this out there tho
Minnesota has dermatoscopes available at every site, so the residents are trained in using them. UPMC gives every resident their own!

insight into Uminn interview?
thoughts on minnesota interview
how was Uminnesota med/derm interview? < everyone is so kind and warm> any interview insight? how many rooms, what were the questions like?
Did everyone who got a UMinn med-derm II automatically get a derm II as well?
Do people get rejected/ghosted from med-derm or do most places just interview almost all applicants because the field is so small? Didn't hear from minnesota today so i'm just wondering if i should be sad or patient
i think we lost monday through today but i found it hidden down below starting at the thing currently in row 11
Was MN only med derm?
No
are we sure?? it doesn't look like anyone has reported outside of med/derm on the interview offers sheet
I wasn't med derm lol I'm just lazy to respond
Med-Derm + gen derm
