Fame & Shame
2025–2026 Derm
3 entries❌1. I wouldn't waste my time rotating at this program, or even apply to it, if your scores are not above 270. This program only cares about scores and scores ONLY. A good portion of the program (residents and faculty) are nice to your face and then talk behind your back.
❌2. ^second above. Residents are very nosy and cliquey, and you can tell who they'll pick based on the demographics + high scores. Does not evaluate holistically, and I wouldn't recommend unless you have ties to san antonio or the military
❌3. Did not take any home students this past match

Texas - UT San Antonio
Can we get a ranking/breakdown of all the TX programs? (MD only)
<nah, it's just more talk about UTSW, looking for a more complete discussion
<UTSW, UT Houston, Baylor Houston, UT san antonio, texas a n m, texas tech, dallas baylor <thanks!
<Austin???
< why are there so many Baylors but they're not event the same institution...
UTSW >>>> UT Houston > Baylor >>>> UTHSCSA = Texas A&M > Tech > Dallas. Austin's too new to say but I figure it'll end up similar to UT Houston.
Besides UTSW (#1) and UT Houston (#2), how would y'all rank the rest of the texas programs: (San Antonio, Austin, Galveston, Tech, Baylor Houston, Baylor Dallas, A&M/Temple)
UTSW wouldn’t be my #1 though so.... (I guess I mean purely based on quality/reputation, not location or personal preference)
lol its the reputation among residents that's bringing it down...good medicine though
the only residents who seem to say bad things about UTSW are those not at UTSW. Those at UTSW have wonderful things to say about their program
Can anyone elaborate on UT Austin?
it's in Austin, nuff said. basically #1 selling point of the program <They hired a lot of great faculty from other good schools. They will be a strong program with all that they are putting into it.
As a non-Texan, I don't understand the difference between Austin, Houston, and Dallas
Can we get an insider perspective on how the Texas programs rank similar to the CA discussion earlier? Seems like UTSW is the easy #1, but what about after that?

Looks like San Antonio sent invites last year on the equivalent of this upcoming Friday...*stress intensifies*
I noticed that most of their residents are from UTSA. Of the all of the residents, only one is from a different institution (New Mexico).
The current interns PGY1s that are going to UTHSCSA next year are all of different institutions, only one was taken from UTSA!
doesn't look like it came?
Wonder if there will be invites this week? Looks like Arizona, San Antonio, Wake Forest, and Wisonsin came out around this time last year...
San Antonio IV's just came out!
Looks like UT Health San Antonio sent out invites today. Guessing from their resident roster (6/8 current residents from Texas schools) that they went to Texas applicants
can we get some confirmation on that, i.e are the people getting interviews in TX?
Might be easier to ask the opposite. Any non-TX people getting interviews?
They sent out interview offers. One of my classmates got offered one today. Texas student here
My guess is these are internal interviews.
They are not. My friend doesn't go to UTHSCSA
I am not from Texas and so did not apply there especially that all their residents are from UT San antonio, so apparently they only take their students. Saved me 28$! x4
if theyre going to take their own students every year, they should have the decency to pull out of the match instead of wasting our money and time x2
TX and CA are known for incest
love the term incest! haha although big programs in CA do take outsiders and are not always consanguinous. The small programs are the ones who commit incest
UTSW is probably the only exception but people from that state tend to want to stay in that state. It's not necessarily on purpose by the program, so they're not wasting your time if you interview there.
NRMP Charting Outcomes of the Match 2016 -- Dermatology is on page 42 of 211 --> http://www.nrmp.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/Charting-Outcomes-US-Allopathic-Seniors-2016.pdf
Thank you to whoever posted this link, I added a tab in our Google Spreadsheet called "Outcomes" to include the explanations right next to each measure so that it's easier for everyone to read and actually understand what the data means. Good luck to everyone!
wow mvp x 2
Wow, this was fantastic! x2
I added a list of Derm programs that didn't fill from the 2016 Match to your added tab from this other link, if you don't mind me adding it: http://www.nrmp.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Main-Match-Program-Results-2012-2016.pdf
I don't mind at all!! I didn't even know that existed. Thanks for posting that info.
What do people think of the programs who had unmatched spots? Strange? Did they just have terrible impressions on everyone during interview day or just not rank well?
My opinion: Some of them looked to be flukes (Case, Dartmouth, maybe Tufts), others were new starting programs (Temple), the rest of them I wasn't really surprised at going unfilled since they were lower-tier Derm programs (Howard, VCU, Oklahoma, UTHSC San Antonio, etc.). I honestly think they got too cocky with their rank list and there are only so many top-tier Derm applicants (in a pool that is so strong already to begin with).
As someone with inside knowledge on one of the "lower-tier" unmatched programs last year, I can tell you they both got too cocky and ran into some weather issues that resulted in cancellations by a couple of interviewees and left a bad taste in interviewees mouths based on how the program handled some of the interview day logistics.| <-- You the MVP thank you! x2
