Applicants discuss Temple University Hospital's dermatology program as a clinical-heavy program with high patient volume (80+ patients/day) that primarily interviews away rotators and internal candidates, with limited opportunities for external applicants. The program has generated mixed sentiment, with some praising the training quality and culture, while others reference concerning social media content from a resident and note potential accreditation issues. Interview logistics and match data are frequently discussed, indicating moderate interest but significant barriers to entry for non-rotators.

Anyone know what it takes to match Temple? Should I rotate? Future applicant here. Love their program and location, but don't have any connections other than being born in PA lol.
Yeah rotating probably helps
they pull heavily from their rotators, def rotate

People deleting anything about PGY2 spots - so far new ones include: UCSF, Temple, MCG . Please add others to help reapplicants
Wayne state
Does anyone know when these applications are due?
MCG and UCSF due 2/6 the other new ones didn't advertise but I'd guess something similar
Wayne state one apparently is not real
if so I wasted $$ applying lol

don't get pissy bc you lack self sufficiency lmao you don't belong in derm if you don't have basic problem solving skills, sorryyyy> not op, not someone who commented before. You don't belong in MEDICINE with that attitude, girl bye, imagine telling a pt "you lack self sufficiency because you lack basic problem solving skills", GET A GRIP PEOPLE. You're a doctor to SERVE and HELP people, NOT TO FEED YOUR EGOS. Do NOT EVER tell people they don't belong somewhere. > not op but had a similar experience where I asked a question here and instead of answering someone responded with a mean joke lol please get a life if you are bothering to respond with a mean comment instead of answering someone's question- I ultimatly deleted mine bc it made me sad
keep barking
Can the person whos mom prayed at a buddhist temple for us let us know how it turned out? Hoping that the good karma came to you!

This season started with a derm resident saying med students going for derm shouldnt have acne and it's all been downhill from there
Boost this lollll (temple)
If I want to match anywhere, where should I rotate? aka which programs interview mainly rotators?
Most of them interview rotators>emory>UF>tulane>Baylor Scott and White Temple
musc
thank you!
want to reiterate that it's getting harder to get these away rotations so you might not have a choice but check the schools that didnt II aways from this year and last year
Would add penn state and jefferson to this list but can't edit the cell for some reason
i believe wayne state also does

I wish I applied to Temple just to know if they address the infamous Tik Tok on interview day
I rotated and interviewed there last cycle, and honestly, the resident that made that video was really nice and welcoming on my away and interview day. I was surprised to see her take on tiktok and don't think it's a good representation of her character from my personal experience
Temple is phenomenal; dont let that one stupid tiktok video deter you from seeing its true quality. the training there is unparalleled x2.
"training is unparalleled" and it's not even a T10 program lmao
Rotate there and you will know what I mean. Much of this T10 ranking is based on research funding, and Temple is more of a clinical program. They see 80+ patients in a DAY.
this is a normal amount lol
If Dr. Hsu leaves, the program will crash and burn

Do we know if it matters if we go to the residency open houses? Like do they keep track of it when choosing who to interview?
Definitely not
They use Zoom trackers to keep track of attendees (often blacklisting those who register and then no-show). After that they filter camera-on versus camera-off users and will rank you accordingly based on participation and engagement (are they smiling/active/nodding?)
no lol
This is absolutely true, signed resident at a highly ranked research institution.
@ the resident, when a program says at the start that it doesn't count/they don't track, should we trust it?
Listen, I know were all neurotic but honestly do we really think an optional open house is going to make or break anything. No. If you register, you should try to attend because you may learn something about the program you didn't know. If a program says at the beginning they dont track, that means to chill.
As a resident in charge of the open house I can tell you the other people in these comments are full of shit. We do not look at or really even remember who is coming to the open house. In fact, it is really annoying when students are doing too much at these open houses. It is genuinely just a chance to learn more about the program. I couldn't give a fuck less if you have your camera on or are dressed in business clothing, etc.
< i hope this is a joke < no its in the NRMP charting outcomes
i know the other person is joking obvy but a resident told me once for their program they keep track, obvy not majority of places but n =1
lol theyre not going to rank you to match just bc you showed up to an open house pls
Nobody said they are ranking to match, but we use it as criteria for interview selection. We look for people who are dressed nicely in formal attire during these open houses, camera should always be on, questions being asked, etc.
you cant be serious lol
not getting an interview because you left an optional open house early sounds like serious copium
LMFAO literally how delusional can you be
they said "how are you going to hate from the outside of the club.. you cant even get in"
and yet they're still insecure…yikes! "I'm so awesome I can't possibly fathom any other reason why I wouldn't get an interview other than this open house that no one cares about"
<it's giving the Temple resident TikTok
So is it better to not sign up for them if you can't for sure attend? I'm on the west coast so some of these east program ones occur when I'm in clinic 😭
some told us during the open house that they don't collect attendance; I don't think it is tracked usually and if it is, not weighed heavily. It is mostly helpful to just be able to have specific things to say about the program / see if you are interested
no lol
