Anonymous posters frequently confused this program with University of Wisconsin, leading to repeated clarifications. Several posts describe mixed interview outcomes (invites, rejections, waitlist) and note the optional supplemental application was not sent to all applicants. Commenters described the program as strong in medical dermatology but less focused on cosmetics, with on-call/consult workload described as being on the higher end.

"Do you guys know of any derm PIs that have taken on (and maybe even funded) college students or post-bacc students in the past? << Usually any Dermatology department that has an extensive basic science lab will take you on. The calculation is different w/college students and post-bacc grad students since you're not applying for Derm residency. Case Western is a good option. << Paul Nghiem...i think?? the god of MCC and chair of u washington. does basic/translational clinical stuff and highly productive and well connected beyond his derm dept. these kinds of positions usually vary though depending on when investigators get funding and if they need to expand their lab/team etc i dont think theres some list of this for derm depts across the country people usually advertise when research spots open or through word of mouth"

Name and Fame RY programs that got you to match today? < University of Washington for the win! Paid too. < Northwestern! Big name PI reached out for me! <- how helpful is it to have "Big name PI" reach out for you? < Incredibly. I got interviews at good programs I otherwise wouldn't have. On my interviews, no one talked about ANY of my other LOR besides my PI's. Pretty much you can go two routes (or a combination), younger more hungry PIs that are looking to pump out pubs, or more well known senior PIs that that carry you with connections and LOR (assuming they really like you). [Protected because someone deleted] 🙄 < HF

I'm having trouble ranking UTSW.. is the culture still malignant; are residents overworked? I'm a sensitive soul and just want to go somewhere nice but utsw seems to have great training :( < there are a few schools like that (excellent training, shitty culture). university of washington apparently creates well-regarded derms but their culture is weird af. sounds similar to utsw < UTSW is just hardcore in academics and research. Residents are friendly but work hard to pursue excellence (in clinic and didactic as well). < you got to build up a tough soul loll < UTSW I agree is bent on creating hardcore academic powerhouses rather than cushing your 3 year experience.. would not rank high if you're trying to cruise < Im not looking for cush; just kind people because im soft lol.. < They're still posting resident core exam percentiles...so yeah still malignant < wait is this real!!! ?

which programs have been the most surprisingly disappointing for you? I expected to like UW a lot more than I do but they fell flat for me < UW is just not that great of a program.< I sent my token there because I really like Seattle. Obviously it did not workout < Harvard's interview day was dissapointing!
