For people who interviewed at UMass or have it this week, what is the schedule like? My interview is next week and I'm trying to coordinate my elective schedule with the supervisor. Thanks!

What anonymous posters said
Anonymous posters frequently reported rejections, sometimes in large batches, alongside a rolling interview process where prelim or interview spots were described as filling quickly. Several posts noted confusion about the supplemental application, including an ambiguous "diversity applicant" prompt, and about away-rotation requirements like mask fitting. Some commenters also discussed interview-day logistics and scheduling.

Fame & Shame
2025–2026 Derm
1 entry✅1. Disclaimer I've never visited this program in person, but wanted to shoutout the great vibes and resources they seemed to have on interview day. Specialty clinics galore and exposure to what sounded like state of the art resources and research. Also tons of admin time, I think it was 2 or 2.5 afternoons off each week. Most importantly to me residents seemed super happy and got along great with faculty. Location isn't great compared to Boston or other cities but COL is good for the area. Sounds like they like away rotators though so I'd encourage doing an away there if you're intersted

What's the structure of the UMass interview day? Does anyone know what time it ends?
Hi! I was just wondering if anyone here had any perspectives on programs in Boston outside of Harvard so BU, Tufts, UMass, etc.? Or programs close to Boston like Brown? I am on the east coast but want to end up in Boston because my fiance and family (and his family) are in Boston, but I have v average stats for derm as far as board scores, pubs, etc. I'm an M3 submitting apps next fall and I'm not sure if any of those programs are within reach / should I do an away rotation at those programs or they mostly take home students (or RY students) / if anyone had any perspective about what the culture is like at those programs! I would love to hear ANY perspectives if anyone has any and would be willing to share with me! Thank you!!
UMass Rejection x20
So for U Mass II, are we waiting until 11/30 to email back or emailing now?
U Mass I think (was deleted) x1
what is a umass diversity applicant? can't find that info online << It's in the supplement only << but what is it? can't figure out if i am interested in it bc i dont know what it is ;/
Did anyone else flat out forget to answer the UMass diversity question? I just totally forgot and didn't address it in my reply. Any suggestions?
What do you guys think is meant by "diversity applicant" on the UMass supplement? Do you think they mean strictly historically underrepresented groups? Or is it more like could you contribute to the diversity of the program?
Does anyone know what the UMass diversity applicant is? I don't know how to respond to that question and I can't find anything on their website.
anyone going to UMASS on thursday flying into boston?
how many derm spots went through SOAP last year? Is there a way to check? Also is it true that Miami had to go through a SOAP spot?
yes
< how do you know? Is there a list of SOAP spots?
i saw it on the 2018-2019 spreadsheet around match time
Anyone know what happened with the IU program? I heard it may have been an ERAS submission error since they are otherwise regarded as a good program. Has any derm program ever had to SOAP all spots?
So I still have a chance to match into derm?
meh weird if it was a error cause I heard they matched like 1 of the spots and others were SOAP
ooooh i didnt know they matched 1 << didn't they match someone from Harvard? Was that through SOAP?
yes i think so
wow a Harvard med student didn't match? << I heard a couple of harvard people didnt match derm... << HOW DID THEY LIKE THEM APPLES
wow that's crazy! did they have disciplinary problems?
yeah one of them got DUI
the one that matched IU or unmatched?
IU
lol damn
how was this info even leaked lmao << a resident on one of my aways had just come back from leave.....for a DUI. Their mug shot came up on Google next to their professional headshot.
how long a leave do you have to take for a DUI? Not that I'm planning on getting one lol
LMAO, also its amazing they let him/her come back
wait you're saying the Harvard student that matched at IU got a DUI?
didn't UMASS or UCONN match all IMGs, was that through SOAP or intentional? << I heard from a few reliable sources that UMass intentionally matched 2 IMGs and took 1 resident who was switching from another specialty at UMass. They did not SOAP and from their website it looks like one of the first times ever they didn't take at least 1 of their own students. Not to say non-traditional applicants don't deserve a shot, but there are many fantastic US MD seniors who didn't match last year.
Indiana matched 1 of their 5 spots last year without the SOAP. They have 5 spots every 3rd year (back to 4 this year).
so what's wrong with the program? How come they had to SOAP? <I rotated there - there was one mean attending but everything else seemed good - not sure how I’d explain it being the only program that needed to SOAP and having 80% of its spots go unfilled (before the SOAP)
U Mass rejection x23 << hahaha university of mass rejection
happy holidays!
did my supplements suck??? didn't get any interviews from them damn x 2
These programs so obviously have no corporate experience. Send out these letters on Fridays PDs << having the mood set on Monday is the perfect way to plan my week though! see -->
< LOL x3 so accurate lmao, thanks for giving me a laugh
How many interviews do most DOs have? Or carribean grads? And who keeps messing with the Osteo Program page?
Not meant to be rude but do Carribean grads apply derm? Seems really tough.
< As someone from a top 5 MD program, I am ALWAYS blown away by the Caribs and osteos graduates in ACGME-accredited programs, especially at the residencies affiliated with my school. They are the superstars who were so great that they overcame the biases of the PDs.
They do. And they sometimes match but almost always after killing it in a research fellowship.
wasnt there a derm program that took a bunch of IMGs recently? in the NE i think > UMass
UMass out x4
did only one person get? what are their dates? << small program, so it's possible <I got it plus someone else posted so at least two people. Interview dates are dec 18 and Jan 17
Congrats!! Method of contact?
eras > TY
Thank you (TY) not Transitional Year (TY)
man, i didn't get any of the programs that i filled out the supplement for. what a waste of time
UMass was reasonable tho with just 100 words. Others less so - mad about BU.
Some posts are shown because their comments mention this program.
IU had to soap all 4 spots i think << IU is Indiana University?
