While rotation mills will still interview and match a percentage of their rotators (with variability between programs), programs that only take their research fellows will rotate and interview many of their rotators, but ultimately offer little to no chance of matching for those outside their fellows.

not OP but you could expand on why? UConn has better Mohs matches (UCLA, UF, etc.) although not sure if this is because there is more Mohs interest over there... interested to hear your thoughts

Mohs matches are not indicative of how good a program is. There are also people from UConn in prior years who went unmatched in Mohs

family? where are you from originally? priorities? vibes at tge two programs are very different

from the west coast (most family from there), both programs have mohs fellowship now, honestly just looking for good training and want to be a solid derm, may want to pursue mohs in the future - could you expand on vibes at the places and which you would rank higher?

As an away rotator at UConn, I can say that Dr. Feng (Mohs) had said he prefers to take people NOT from UConn internally as it's better to have more variety in trains of thought or w/e. Not sure if that will sway you. Otherwise, Wayne has more SOC, community family vibes between residents and faculty. UConn is semi-similar but there is an air of heirarchy there especially as an rotator...

Wayne state has also not historically taken their own for Mohs...

Columbus, OH is a great city to live in, great football and has an airport. Winters aren't as brutal as MN. Would recommend

I think a lot of it will come down to personal preference? Ex., for me personally, I'd prioritize programs in areas where I don't have connections that are next to a bigger airport to make it easier to see family/friends; city size and demographics are also something to consider

I just find it interesting that multiple rotators had the same impression of them about knowing who their "picks" were during the rotation. It has to have some truth to it.

I was an away and ik how you felt, it felt like they knew their ppl that they wanted to associate with, esp with the nepos :( fortunately got along with a couple residents that were kind

they had a lot of home students and aways this year who are largely from the CT/MA area and want to stay close to home> they had like 10 combined home RY etc students. Also if some apps only had 1-2 interviews it's not like people have many choices unfortunately.

i didn't interview there, but would've liked to - very famous faculty who love to teach, and reputation is residents are happy

there is no NRMP rule saying that they cannot share information. The NRMP rules prohibit them from asking you inappropriate questions like "who's your #1?"

The chief residents most likely know, they might spill to the other residents.

I actually think UConn has an amazing program as someone who rotated there. They're catching a lot of heat this year but their attendings and education are top notch

their overall education is fine i think its just the way the program has protrayed itself this year (likely to aways on the sheet) has been less than fortunate.
