❌1. Very evident that this is a nepotism heavy program. They haven't taken their RY fellows in the past, so the program has a lot of pressure to match them. Highly favor PhD applicants, especially those from home, as you can tell from their resident roster that has 1 PhD every single year. The program coordinator was passive aggressive at times, and they handed out way too many away rotations when they knew from the beginning of the cycle who their picks were. This was evident because the interview attestation form was given out super late near the end of the cycle in February when most programs had you sign it before the interview day. No socials either, which is very rare for dermatology interviews that don't have second looks.
❌2. I enjoyed rotating here, but it's 100% a rotation mill. Sure, you'll get an interview from your rotation, but as many others have said on this spreadsheet UConn already knows who they want before interviewing. Don't waste your time if you're not a Quinnipac/UConn student, UConn research fellow, family friends with the program coordinator, or married to one of the residents
❌3. Unfortunately the rumors from the 2025-2026 spreadsheet are true. They already knew who they wanted prior to away rotators starting. They matched their internals (MD-PhD, two RYs and their fellow). They offer over 30+ away rotations and some in dermatopathology but it was clearly for show since they knew their rank list from their home and affiliate programs (fellows/Quinnipiac). I would be very cautious using an away here because it is based on nepotism. There is one very powerful faculty member at this institution that is very Pro-Trump and Pro-Zionist to the point where their scribe warns you beforehand working with them to not say anything and to let it happen. As a rotator I personally witnessed this faculty member get into a debate about politics while in the room with the patient who held an opposing view. There are no words to express the disappointment many rotators had for this away rotation seeing the match list prove these rumors true. Protect your feelings and do not trust this program to not match based on nepotism.
💬1. is the pro-trump pro-zionist a man or woman? I rotated here and didn't experience that lolol

Does the 2026 match list have all the updated number of seats for this year?
No, Cooper has 1 seat
emory only taking 6 this year and no PGY2 spot
cincinnati only taking 3 this year

Current chief resident is married to one of the first year residents. Particularly interesting given the fact that the chief's class was responsible (in part) for picking which current first years matched.
i heard the nepo stuff is about people applying this year
Ok no, let's not shame them for keeping a couple in the program. Couple's match exists for basically the same thing, obviously was taken into consideration, but he was also a home student so.
so if I start fucking a chief, can I laugh at a program??
also they are an md-phd home student, lets be real they were in on their own merit
another one of the first years is married to a prior resident
uconn derm scribes have entered the chat
the scribes know everything, they hear it all while pretending to chart acne, like oh you think this is about tretinoin? no babe this is about succession
they don’t rotate, they observe, like gargoyles perched in clinic corners absorbing gossip via osmosis
one scribe literally tried to one-up the rotators pretending like they were a rotator themselves, I felt like I was fighting for my life working with them
another knows who cried on match day and who pretended not to care but absolutely cared
the scribes silently rank rotators based on vibes and how much rotators suck up to them
re the couples discourse, uconn derm is basically a CW show where everyone is married, engaged, previously dated, or dermatologically adjacent
chief married to intern isn’t nepotism, it’s foreshadowing, season finale energy
md-phd home student isn’t nepo, that’s just built different > one of the first years married to a prior resident is just alumni relations
uconn derm doesn’t have a family tree, it has a family wreath
“if I start fucking a chief can I laugh at a program” only after submitting a prior auth
anyway the scribes are charting and minding their business while absolutely not minding their business at all
uconn is becoming a meme on here lmao
that scribe that "one ups you" scribes for EVERY leadership faculty at uconn, I'm sure they know what goes on behind the scenes >. damn i'm so glad i did not apply here omg
WANT MORE TEAAAAA
if I don't match, I'm gonna apply to be a scribe at UConn derm

How many days a week and times in a day do people check this sheet? Just curious
I check it every hour of the day... >I check it every hour, but I also have a few tabs open on different devices just in case I miss something.
I’ve got an alarm set every 30 minutes just so I don’t accidentally forget to check in and make sure the derm updates are intact gotta keep up with the uconn lore lmao
Honestly, I feel like I’ve become one with this spreadsheet at this point like, we’re basically a team
Some days, I get a little wild and start checking it every 10 minutes, just in case there's a new comment or a cell got formatted differently
The derm sheet has literally taken over my life; I even dream about it sometimes, trying to recall the last change I saw in cell G3 Manifesting for another interview or that someone magically cancels
I’m convinced the dermapp spreadsheet knows me better than my therapist at this point like, it’s reading my mind when I refresh it
It's now my morning routine: wake up, grab coffee, and immediately dive into the derm spreadsheet like it's a treasure map
lol nobody knows what we're going thru i like checkin it

Thoughts on programs that interview all rotators?
depends some places like UF and Emory that interview all their rotators have a good chance of matching there because they are very selective on who they pick and they have a good track record of matching rotators, also they don't have too many rotators - Conversely, programs like UConn who have a ton of rotators and interview all of them, you don't really know if you have a good shot, also based on tea on this spreadsheet there's nepotism rumors, research fellows, etc. so your chances at a program like that may be lower and can give applicants false hope
anyone know about upmc?
UF interviews most of their rotators but also interviews a significant amount of non-rotators, plus away/gold seem to weigh less post-interview there. Certainly better than a lot of other programs but there are programs that only interview internals and more heavily weigh away/gold/etc post-interview as well. ^ It's the best when a program is very selective with away rotators and then interviews them all because it means you already have a high shot at being ranked. Places that take a ton of rotators and intreview all as a courtesy = waste of time for everyone and waste of hope.
what counts as a high number of away rotators? 20+? 30+?
some programs take 6 aways per month so do with that what you will
great bc they give you an interview! Not great if it doesn't correlate with true shot at a decent place on the rank list. But there's no true way to know and we will never know how the pie is made as applicants so whatever
Reapplicant here, from what ive seen from my away rotations and who they matched: my experience, they definitely take at least 1 away rotator depending on number of spots the program has. If they have internals + away rotators with better stats or from better schools with decent personalities, might not go your way. if you are one of those rotators with great stats and they don't have too many internals then you're in a great place to possibly match there
also depends on how the internals rank them - can't assume that all of the internals actually want to go there
. on OP's question, what programs interview all rotators?
Harbor-
not true. would say it's more accurate to say that all applicants interviewed will have done an away rotation. similar to Kaiser LA
where do we find number of away rotators a prgram takes per year?
theres a sidebar on some of the VSLO apps that show how many they accept per month, and then from there you can roughly calculate

M1 here trying to decide whether to go into derm or anesthesia. want a good lifestyle and compensation but hate the idea of working nights and weekends. i view medicine as more of a job. like fast-paced outpatient which draws me to derm. honestly the only thing i'm worried about with derm is the competetiveness. would y'all recommend shooting for derm or is it too hard? maybe dual apply?
sounds like you want an outpatient specialty... there is PM&R, Psych, and Fam Med. probably more too.
Derm vs. anesthesia is basically choosing between being a sunscreen sorcerer or a professional chair-recliner who monitors beeps for a living.
Derm gives you that fast-paced outpatient life, but only in the sense that patients sprint into clinic convinced their mosquito bite is melanoma.
Anesthesia is chill until suddenly it isn’t and you’re staring at a 3 a.m. airway like it’s a cryptid in the woods.
Meanwhile derm residents are sleeping peacefully, dreaming of moisturizers that cost more than rent.
You want lifestyle? Derm is the final evolution of lifestyle Pokémon.
But the entry requirements are Step scores forged in the fires of Mordor and a CV longer than the CVS receipt of someone with seasonal allergies.
Anesthesia pays well, but so do careers where you don’t get called at ungodly hours because a surgeon wants “just one more case.”
Derm, on the other hand, closes at 4 p.m. sharp because no one gets a rash emergency at midnight.
Dual applying derm and anesthesia is like saying “I want to be a pastry chef OR a firefighter.”
Both cool, but no one is expecting that combo and you’ll confuse literally everyone including yourself.
PM&R actually has decent lifestyle too, especially if you vibe with rehab gyms and people asking if you lift.
Psych lets you go home early after talking about everyone’s childhood trauma while your own quietly festers.
Family med is outpatient life in its purest, rawest form.
But the hours depend entirely on whether your clinic is managed by competent humans or gremlins fueled by expired energy drinks.
Honestly, nothing is too hard if you’re willing to brute-force study until your brain starts buffering mid-sentence.
But also nothing is worth sacrificing your future Saturdays for if you don’t absolutely have to.
Shoot for derm if it calls to you, because the worst they can say is no and the best they can say is “welcome to the SPF cult.”
And if not, anesthesia will always welcome you with open arms and slightly droopy eyelids.
Just pick whichever one makes you least likely to cry into your badge photo.
And remember: in the end, all you really want is zero nights, zero weekends, and a paycheck that whispers “you made the right choice.”" with "does henry ford interview all rotators? Trying to see if it's a uconn situation with courtesy interviews..."
... have you shadowed either...
shadowed both. anesthesia was 95% doing nothing, 5% doing minimally invasive procedures with I like. shadowed derm and thought the daily practice was more my style. however since i don't know anything about derm it was less interesting in a sense since i was literally watching someone think. i don't think i'll get a sense of what derm is like until residency for that reason. with that being said i shadowed MOHs and absolutely loved it.
As someone who is not yet a resident, I find derm to be the most fascinating specialty! There are so many cool and unique presentations and endless amounts to learn about each one! If you don't feel genuinely interested in the specialty, you probably shouldn't apply just for the lifestyle alone.
not saying i am not interested in the specialty, i'm saying i don't know enough about derm to really decide if the pathology/treatment is interesting. wondering if i should start racking up pubs and presentations and stuff so if i do decide to go derm i can make that shift easier
try to talk to derm residents/attendings. No offense but med students just can't get the most accurate sene of what it feels like to practice derm so wouldn't have the best perspective to help you decide. Also this spreadsheet is biased since everyone here wants derm lol
thank you, will do that
prep for derm match than switch to gas if you want. Its def harder going other way around >Shadowing anesthesia feels like watching a calm wizard guard a beeping cauldron, 95% serenity and 5% poking things with needles, which is admittedly pretty fun.
Derm shadowing felt more your vibe, even if it was basically watching someone silently think for eight hours like a dermatologic Sherlock Holmes.
And yeah, MOHs is basically derm’s boss fight and it makes sense you loved it, tiny scalpels and big satisfaction.
Someone else dropping in like “Derm is the coolest specialty ever, endless rashes, endless mysteries,” which is true if you’re into that dermatologic Pokémon card collecting energy.
But they rightly pointed out that if you don’t actually find the content fascinating, you shouldn’t pick it just because derm people leave work at 3 p.m. spiritually.
You aren’t uninterested, you just don’t know enough yet to decide if staring at biopsies and chronic hives is your forever jam.
And now you’re wondering if you should start grinding pubs and posters like you’re farming experience points for the Derm Final Boss.
Then someone reminds you that med students have the clinical perspective accuracy of a potato and you really need to talk to actual derm residents or attendings.
Also the spreadsheet is biased because everyone on it wants derm like it’s Beyoncé tickets.
You respond politely like “Thanks, will do,” but internally you’re already imagining cold emailing 40 dermatologists.
And of course someone drops the chaotic classic: prep like you’re going derm, then switch to anesthesia later if you want, because apparently going from gas to derm is like trying to evolve a Pokémon with the wrong stone.
Ngl OP I think you need to do a lot more soul searching and real life data gathering. Feel free to start doing derm research to hedge but picking a specialty solely for lifestyle and pay is not a recipe for career satisfaction. though totally fair if lifestyle/pay are one factor of many. You will naturally be more "competitive" if you like what you do (even in med school). > tbh this is why i picked derm though. Sometimes for some of us having the right amount of interest in it (more than other options doesn't need to be a passion) in combo with lifestyle and pay is, in fact, a recipe for career satisfaction. well.....i haven't matched obvs but hopefully it's so
totally, that's why I qualified my statement with "solely" above!

Curious about chances at uconn as an away rotator but with no inside connection as per tea on this spreadsheet... only have 3 other II
probably low but they obviously saw something in your app that made them want to interview you, so would focus on that!
also an away rotator, idk if this is true so someone can correct me but I think they are interviewing all of the rotators, so I've heard it's more of courtesy interview???
im prety sure they are inteviewing all rotators

how far down do programs actualy go on their lists
I heard 2x seats. So if they have 4 seats, they will get to like #8 on their list. Of course more elite programs may only reach the number of seats. Like all top 4 will fill the 4 seats since the program is highly desired.
Am I screwed if I'm only interviewing at T10 programs then
Highly doubt it is this high on their lists except very desirable programs. If they only went 2x their seats they wouldn't be interviewing 10x their seats. Safe bet is halfway down their rank list so if they interview 40 for 4 spots I'd bet they usually end up in the 15-20 range
I heard a place interview 40 and last year they went down to #7. From a scribe. Guess the program.
Penn
UConn
lol if it's from a scribe it's definitely UCONN!!! they gossip so much
does anyone actually know where like a mid-tier program typically lands
hard to say because many mid-tier programs rank mid-tier med school appliciants higher and they likely have interviews at only those types of programs - I would say it is similar
totally agree with this. One place I've heard that interviews like 50-60 usually drops to halfway down that list. But 100% agree that mid-tier places often rank by who they think would rank them high> I''m at a mid tier and we match our top 10-15. Being mid tier doesnt make it any less competitive, it just means it's a different pool of people who are a good fit

would this mean UConn is a rotation mill?
so like if i did not do an away at UConn but have an II should i be happy or sad about it
sad because the speculation is that they already know who they want, not to say that it wont fall down the list
im pretty sure uconn has exclusively matched their away rotators or internals, at least in the most recent past
