Is UCLA or UCI or UCSD better for cosmetics?

Sentiment score: 3.8 / 10
UC Irvine receives mixed reviews with significant criticism about clinical experience quality, scheduling, and resident satisfaction, though some applicants view it as underrated. The program generated numerous rejections and logistical questions about interview dates and communication. Current residents and away rotators frequently compare it unfavorably to Colorado, citing packed schedules, limited pathology diversity, and interpersonal concerns, with the main advantage being Southern California location.
✅1. Faculty are excellent clinicians and teachers. They are experts in a wide range of subspecialties (hair, oncoderm/ctcl, immunobullous, rheum-derm, cosmetics, procedural derm/lasers, peds derm etc) and seem well connected. Beautiful place to live in with access to top tier food and amazing beaches. Some of the clinics are the nicest I have seen. I rotated there and loved it. Every day was different because there was so much to see and so many faculty to work with. It could seem overwhelming at first, but it shows how much you will be able to learn and get exposed to during residency.
❌1. Long drive between sites, parking isnt free, and all that just to be treated like a scribe in clinic
💬1. Excellent training with exposure to many subspecialty clinics and attendings are great teachers. Matches well into fellowship. High volume clinics and exposure to wide range of pathology. Attendings have wide range of expertise. Location is beautiful and many of the facilities are very nice. Residents seem close > Also disagree with residents being treated as scribes, I did a rotation here and they all see pts independently and staff with the attendings just like at any other institution

Which derm programs have the best cosmetics training? I've scoured some of the past sheets/SDN and sometimes UCI, Kaiser LA, and Samaritan are mentioned. Any others?
saw in previous sheets that cosmetics were top-notch at nyu, especially compared to other t5s
Yes for UCI and Kaiser LA! I'm not familiar with Samaritan
How is UC Irvine? Not much on the website
Great cosmetic training, really good if you are interested in private practice
what does great cosmetic training look like at this program? just trying to understand how to compare! thank you!!
what does great cosmetic training and preparing you for private practice look like at this program? just trying to understand how to compare! sorry im not too familar with it. thank you!!
Very good training, lots of experts in the field of hair, oncodermatology, bullous disorders, rheum derm, CTCL, etc
re: question in the new spreadsheet. Someone mentioned UCI being especially great in cosmetics and prepares you well for private practice. What does this mean on the day to day/how the program is structured/experiences you would have at this residency compared to other programs? sorry i dont know much about this
thoughts on UC irvine? hard to read on the interview
Seemed like a very strong program. Downside is the driving and parking and cost of living of course in Cali. But program and experience wise seemed excellent
any insight on why everyone says it's the worst program in Cali though?
?definitely have not heard this as a CA applicant
UCI's program highkey underrated
look at the x vs y though... what's the tea
honestly might be the best program in socal

Has anyone who is interviewing at UCI this week gotten their schedule yet?
An important thing to consider: do you like the vibes at the other interviews? some programs may surprise you so I think keeping an open mind during this time is impt! congrats on the interviews :) > hi! I am also insanely jealous of your II number!! that's crazy!! I'm struggling with the same thing. I personally want to stay at my home program even if I got interviews at other more highly ranked places and other places in different cities. Now I'm thinking about the joys of exploring a different place too. It's hard. Not an answer but I think residency is so personal and it's a difficult time that support matters as much as exploration and vice versa. You can't go wrong either way:) Maybe visit the places that are at the top of your list if you have time! and yes I think reflection is truly going to be important for both of us! No choice is the wrong choice and if it makes you feel better I think you'll be happy either way (so much of being happy is on the inside anyways). What would you be happier to write on your poster on match day?
9:27 PST got waitlist email from UC Irvine
ugh what are chances of getting off waitlist
very tough for virtual. If on waitlist for in-person much more likely
Can someone confirm if al the interview slots are full on thalamus?
1/7 full, 1 slot left for 1/9
thank you!

thank you!
I don't think UCI released > how come?
no one has filled out the sheet and there are definitely more invites than that
someone just put 9:06 PST on the sheet
UCI is now out, definitely a troll earlier>Also scheduling is live for UCI
can ppl comment if you got UCI, BU, or Michigan
I got BU on thalamus
same
same
was UCI thalamus?
why do people ask if it's thalamus? how is that helpful?> My guess is because thalamus is more likely to be a mass send, whereas an email perhaps gives the possibility of receiving later in the day
thalamus emails are auto-sent and usually one and done. PC emails are typically rolling
like emory, people got it over the span of 45 mins to an hour
so UCI all out? :(
seems a bit early for irvine?
don't think UCI actually released yet, no one is filling out the Interview Offers tab
I see 2 there now :(
i'm skeptical
is it possible that they are internals?
i hope

scared to trust residency explorer for LOR requirements, i feel like everything on there is outdated. is there any other place to find this info?
In general, send 4 if you have 4. Most places that say 3, will still take 4. No where actually requires a chair letter (that I've seen). - our dean said to trust the websites over residency explorer
this is literally not good advice lol
how many letters are yall sending to UCLA, UCD, UCI? Residency explorer says 3, but i know friends that sent 4 last year
u can send 3-4.
