i think there is some truth to it, seems like ppl that i know ranked places in CA higher due to location. probs similar to NYC

coming from a CA school, i know a lot of ppl signaled and interviewed with smaller CA programs, but I chose not to signal bc there's so many applicants applying to these small programs with only 2 spots. felt like a long shot, esp when there are home students and away rotators who have a better chance

Loma Linda derm has some of the nicest people i've ever met, I would recommend that away to a friend honestly. Heads up-- if you want a good shot there you got to do an away and signal gold.

I would say the vibes are close-knit vibes amongst the residents, with supportive faculty, lots of surgical training, working with an underserved population so can see a good variety of clinical cases. Daily AM lectures, there's exposure to peds derm and dermpath as well. Lots of spanish speaking patients depending on the clinical site. More of a clinical focused program than research focused. Is in the inland empire, located ~1-2 hrs from LA (without traffic), depending on what part of LA you're going to.

it was actually really nice to have the chance to give a presentation. i just made it about where I grew up, hobbies, where I am now, etc

I think we just share our screen and present from our computers

< the idea of doing a presentation on top of the interview day is such a huge turn off to me. Why add more work to an already stressful day.

Assuming the program doesn't require you to cover any specific subjects/topics, it really allows you to shine and talk about what you're passionate about. It lets candidates shine beyond their stats or # of research pubs, just as the interview does. I'm all for more of these non-stat driven opportunities to shine throughout the selection process
