Honestly, it’s more like them high-fiving each other in secret, like, ‘Yup, we both want them.’ So yes, you can totally end up with both interviews and feel like you’ve hacked the derm system

no, it's not BS. Look at who is matching there lol. UCSD Chair specifically looks for and prefers people from "top" institutions. They don't even match people from their own school.

They heavily emphasize rotators/internal RY. They take a ton of rotators tho so it still doesn't help you much. Certain faculty have pretty much taken 2/4 spots for their fellows recently, so you're left with an even smaller chance.
