has there been any info on the social for uchicago?
Putting derm aside, are Uchicago and NW IM prelim still going to give out interview invites? They have been v quiet. x2
Did anyone get email rejections from U of Chicago or UCSF? I wonder if programs are just too lazy to send out rejections? 😅 < I have not.
Did any away rotators get II from UChicago-Pritzker?
According to the spreadsheet, GWU, Einstein and UChicago still havent released aways? Anyone else waiting on one of them or have heard anything?
Anyone do a rotation at Uchicago? How was it? I did one. They had four rotators at the same time as me. I spent a month there, mornings clinic with different providers usually had derm path in the afternoons. Interviewed during the rotation. It was alright. They took a prelim and ry this year.
Dr. Shea used to be the section chief & program director before the current one. It is still a division under Internal Medicine (take that for what it's worth). It's not the worst Derm program in Chicago but it certainly does not match up with what you'd think a derm program would be like with a medical school like Pritzker (unlike say Northwestern). For those in the know, you'd try as much as possible to try to match somewhere else bc of the culture at the program. It's a program that historically hasn't been too great to its home students in terms of matching at their program. < agree, resident at my home program went there for medical school and did not recommend doing an away there when I asked lol << LOL. I guess nothing has changed much at U of Chicago's derm program since the early 2000s in that regard. I don't know why that is the case, but Pritzker students try as much as possible to match somewhere else for Derm.
Can any home students or rotators comment on U Chicago? What's the environment like? Do the residents seem to like it there? I've heard mixed reviews from people who knew the program 10 years ago when it had a different chair, so i wanted to know if it has changed < I'm assuming you're talking about Dr. Shea when he was Section Chief (since Derm is a division of Internal Medicine) at U Chicago Pritzker. Yup, you'd be correct about how it was around that time. A lot of home students at Pritzker at that time (have no idea now w/Pritzker students) as much as possible tried to match somewhere else for Derm because of him, although obviously one can't be too picky with programs in terms of matching into this specialty since Derm is Derm. < TY - this matches what I heard. Is the culture better now? < I mean even right now on their Derm resident page, only ONE of the derm residents is from U Chicago-Pritzker: https://dermed.uchicago.edu/people/ < New PD and Section Chief started recently (2019?), so that would have little to no impact on current residents (ie they just started as current residents were applying)
List of programs where residents are overworked? < NYU < Miami <UChicago < Northwestern U < UTSW < Harvard << is utsw still that bad? <UT Houston < is UChicago still bad? Heard it changed after most of the faculty changed < is miami as bad as people say < Residency explorer from 2020 said 60 hr/ week for UChicago
and just like that ladies and gents, we have a new #1 program. NW was such a delightful experience < NU or NW? < Chicago and #1 program are mutually exclusive my friend < i know, trust me but they are killing me here with how great experience it was < I love a little mugging with my morning walk. < mugging with -10 wind chill on the side < delicious < i feel like we rained on OPs parade a little and i'm sorry OP, glad you liked the program and hope u end up there and love it < kinda like the rain in chicago? < OP: nah they actually covered all the reasons my family is looking at me like I'm high rn after i told them I liked NW so I definitely hear you guys haha < Hopkins & NW are at the bottom of my list for these exact reasons. I choose life, thx < did you also interview at both today? i hated hopkins so at least that part is figured out for me < You aren't getting shot walking around Northwestern. It's in the cushiest part of Chicago. The rent is like SF levels in Streeterville and the most basic grocery store is a Whole Foods. < People must be mixing up Northwestern and U Chicago, very different areas < lol we are not mixing anything up. We know NW itself is in a boujie part of town but people will have lives outside the immediate NW area< outside the NW area is fine, stay away from the southside and westside (not including south loop or west loop)
Whoever keeps deleting shit about derm learning resources must have seriously been hurt by one of these companies lmao < Yeah, I don't know why. I mean I didn't think it was a big deal. Someone was just asking about a particular resource. < butthurt people will continue to be butthurt i guess < haha it just seems like such a random thing to be deleting or upset over < derm applicants are weird af (speaking from experience 😂). Either that or someone has competing interest in another company that rivals the original company < < Would not shock me in the least. LOL. < reminds me of people in my class who wouldn't talk about pathoma around faculty cuz it might offend them < that's too crazy lol <uchicago? < nah further west < Doing it to not offend/hurt the feelings of faculty is one thing. But deleting it for competitive purposes is just weird, especially at this point. < I've been on this spreadsheet since it started and there are some weird fuckers on here who will delete anything for the weirdest reasons. < We should start a new Derm tab which the mods can lock cell by cell (so it doesn't get deleted) of Derm resources for Derm residents. < YES PLEASE. There's only so much of a textbook I can read.
anyone do U chicago's virtual away and not get an interview
Keep getting passed by UChicago 😕 < Bad area x1

I learned a lot and got plenty of surgical experience. Dr. Stein, Dr. Laumann, and Dr. Busby were fantastic. I found the program director to be unkind and not supportive if you did not have a PhD. Still I am quite thankful for my residency there." if you look at who uchicago derm takes in the last few years id say its pretty true they favor PhDs and nontrad applicants ie previously got MD did reserach fellowship etc. compared to the average derm program. do with this info what you will
