Applicants discuss Howard University's dermatology program with mixed perspectives, noting friendly and approachable residents and faculty, but expressing concerns about lower compensation, interview logistics, and the program's competitiveness tier. The program appears to prioritize diversity and has a smaller class size (3 residents), with some applicants questioning its ranking relative to top-tier programs.
Fame & Shame
2025–2026 Derm
1 entry❌1. Residents are on their own when it comes to studying for board exams and the program is sadly underresourced with no in-house dermpath. Have to share VA with other DC residency programs. Terrible salary that is not adjusted to high COL in DC.
Any thoughts on Howard's iv?
i liked it! kind of hard questions and felt like the VA faculty really didn't want to be there (most of them)
the resident room felt a bit off, it was mostly question and answer and they seemed lowkey tired
agree re resident room but rest felt very friendly compared to my other interviews so far! and so appreciate the timing

Is the Howard social tonight or tomorrow? I saw both dates mentioned in the emails I got
tonight

I would like to know how Howard IM prelim had NINE (9) unmatched spots last year? Is this program trash?
CRAZY, they did not even offer me an II
I just got an II on this second round they released but I'm also like what??
can anyone else who interviewed with them talk about how the interview day was/why they have so land unmatched spots?
open now!
the dates they have on thalamus now isn't the one they told me for the derm portion, so this is just the IM portion?

Has anyone done the Howard University IM Pre-lim interview? there's not much in the impressions tab about it >> it was a HOT mess
pls elaborate lol
yes please say more! The fact that they don't even have a website is telling
has anyone heard back from Howard with an assigned interview time?
I haven't so glad you asked because I was freaking out too
Has anybody heard back from Howard on their interview times?
nope!
Did you guys just email PC back asking for your preferred session? I didn't see any link to self-schedule on my email!> I just responded to the ERAS message but haven't heard back> has anyone heard back yet with assigned time?
did howard really come out today or is this trolling?
Howard has released
they released on the first date last year as well
hmmm :) this sounds like a rads applicant, nah im applying aerospace med
is howard taking signals?
I checked on the DIGA sheet and it looks like they are this cycle
what DIGA sheet?
< what DIGA sheet?
I have three aways on my radar and luckily one accepted me. I have a home program so was hoping to do 2 aways. The two programs I havent heard from yet at UT Houston and Howard. If I had to choose one vs the other to accept (god willing I have the choice, which should I pick and why)
Neither are good tbh but pick Houston. Howard's pay is horrendous.
I disagree. Howard residents are wonderful and while DC is expensive, look at the happiness of the residents too. Clearly they're happy and that says a lot despite lower pay
Howard is that you>howard does aways???

How many schools are y'all applying to (ive been told atleast 40-45) but just worried about the ROI with II for schools outside of my signals? < if you look at the 25 stats match and the column of how many interview invites they got from outside signals, it's pretty much nil
Don't apply outside of signals except for programs who don't accept signals in general
Is there a list of programs that interview outside of signals? I noticed some poeple didnt signal and matched at places
theres literally only like 2 who don't participate in signals so don't worry about it, ex. one of them from last year was howard
i dont think that's what op was asking. i think they wanna know who interviews people that dont signal. fwiw i think chances of II outside of signal is like 1% or something ridiculous
every year only one or two people out of hundreds say they get one interview outside of signals. imo not worth it but whatever helps you sleep at night. i applied to all 130 programs out of anxiety and didn't get any outside my signals.
130 programs are you made of money oh my god
*rattles empty can* "spare change..?"

its the way some of the drama on this spreadsheet about certain progams knowing who they wanted is true.. not surprised at some of these match lists.
which programs
I dont blame programs for favoring internal candidates. The cycles are brutal. Many internal candidates have built great rapport and community with their program, why shouldn't they be favored?
> as someone who did not match at their home program, i completely agree. Programs should value their home students when able
uconn, howard
no shade but then why have dozens of aways come through.
Anyone know where @becomingdrdevore matched? Thought they applied derm
applied, didnt match derm
how do u know

I feel like I know of a couple med influencers from Howard who didn’t match. Seemed like Howard was only able to match 3 home students to their own program, and no where else
yikes
devore matched her home prelim IM (pitt). its on a Pitt IM res IG post
