< You know, there is the entirety of the West Coast to consider. We're still in business hours << I don't think it's updated to say we're done, just a running tally (the same row is moved up) << just updated it << 10+ person, can you please press CTRL+Z to not erase the field that was there or use the function to get the past entry back << Thank you for reverting it back to original
Anyone surprised that they DIDNT get an interview somewhere? Rotator? Research experience? Regional connection?
Me. NY resident, didn't do med school in NY, but literally did an away rotation with a LOR from a NY school. No NYU, no Columbia. <<Me. Georgetown. Lived in DC for 4 years << Me. From the Midwest no U of M, Iowa, or Wisconsin! <<Feel that one bruh. x5 << Same, also no Arizona or New Mexico #cool . << 18 years in Texas and no TX programs yet (holding on to hope). From Mexico, no offer from New Mexico!
Me. Born in Boston, went to Harvard, no interview from Harvard << Harvard hasn't gone out yet? Do you mean pre-lim? x2. Prelim <<I got harvard prelims with no connections, but did not get my home program's prelim...its pointless to try to make sense of it
Georgetown (individual email) x7 Method of contact: Internal: External: x4 Connection to program: None
Congrats! x3 <Is this the same as Med Star or did I not apply to Georgetown?? <same
<did anyone get offered dates or is 12/6 the only date for interviewing? <- I only got 12/6 x3
Anyone get specific information on the reserved for physician only spot?
< they said categorical spot in my email but I’m a pgy-1.
<Think more will come? just one date seems odd
hoping so!

Did anyone get a regular georgetown derm interview? Or have only med derm come out?
Medstar Georgetown University/Washington Hospital Center out
Does anyone know- is medstar the same as georgetown?
Is anyone considering dropping Medstar/Georgetown on 12/8? Would be very grateful if this is low on your list of you were considering it!
Anyone else with < 5 prelim invites? x2 Starting to freak out. How many do others have (not TY's, just IM prelims)?
I applied to ~15 IM prelims- 1 invite
I applied to 29 IM prelims- 3 invites so far
Applied to 15 have 5 prelim invites but 4/5 are more community programs
For the people struggling to get invites, by any chance did you only apply to prelims that are considered "competitive" for whatever reason or did you mix it up and include community programs as well? I did not apply to community programs, all academic (that's why I applied to ~30)
applied to a mix of ~25 IM prelims in competitive location, 2 invites so far.
personally, I say dont freak out yet. My understanding is that you can email prelims when you get an advanced interview at a school and an "in the area" email -- if you dont have enough prelim interviews by Dec/Jan, I think many programs will make exceptions to their interview dates and accommodate you.
applied to 20-25 TY/prelim, at 9 interviews right now. I think I have been more fortunate than most
Our school IM chair told us not to stress, the invites will come. Especially since we're derm!
Anyone get prelim IM invites to BU, Medstar Washington Hospital Center, or Mount Auburn Hospital? If so were you internal or external? I Medstar washington prelim invite, external
I think boston med center sent invites, not that you still can't get one regardless
Mount Auburn, external x4
<-- what kind of stats?
so what is "enough" prelim invites after all? I was thinking 8 with some community programs i was interested in due to location should be enough?
Mt Auburn external invite here, step 1 240+, at Top 10 in NE region
Georgetown/ Washington Hospital Center Med/Derm invite (external) !
Congratulations!!!
Out of nothing but sheer curiosity: What kinds of interviews did you guys get? Were they all within a certain location/connection or within a certain tier of program?
Personally, it was very random for me location/tier/size/strengths/etc x2
Got all the local programs, and then a random mix of size/ strengths/ tiers
Mainly in same tier with a few lower tier local programs
Local interviews, east coast only (where I am from).
</-- can anyone comment on whether they thought away rotations helped them in securing interviews @ certain programs (ms3 here starting to think about where to do aways)
Vanderbilt and Emory are both great away rotations and programs and guarantee you an interview. Georgetown (Washington Hospital Center) also interviews all of their rotators.
I would avoid programs that haurantee interviews. If they grant all rotators an interview, you don't know if its a courtesy interview or if they are actually interested which wastes your time and money. It also comes with the opportunity cost of competing for interviews at another away rotation
Looking back I wish I didn't rotate at places that guaranteed an interview for this reason.
I completely disagree. I chose places I was guaranteed an interview so that I didn't waste my time. I also got letters from my aways which made my interview actually mean something since I had to work closely with the PDs to get a letter. But I also chose NOT to do aways at top 20 institutions for the exact reason people mentioned. Just be smart and do aways where you'd want to go and rock them.
I find it hard to believe "courtesy" interviews are not legitimate interviews-as valuable as a dermatologist's time is, they wouldn't simply waste it just to be nice to an applicant they know stands no chance. Unless there's credible info from a selection committee member on here or online an interview is still an interview.
I chose to do 4 away rotations. 2 at places where interviews are guarenteed and 2 where they are not. I think this approach helped me. I got letters from my aways, including a very reputable doc and this has been brought up at EVERY single derm interview.
It is absolutely a fact that courtesy interviews exist. There are people interviewed on interview day that have previously been assigned "do not rank" status
WHC out - congrats (was really hoping for this one)
Has anyone gotten information for the Washington Hospital Center interview? It's coming up soon and still haven't gotten any information...
