Fame & Shame

2025–2026 Derm

2 entries

1. The only good thing i have to say about this program is that they have a diverse set of patients and strong med derm. But this school was awful and unfortunately disappointing and did not meet expectations for a supportive or learning environment. The faculty across the board does not like to engage w/ students (not sure if its the same for home students). Faculty doesnt make an effort to get to know rotators, and there's minimal investment in teaching. Residents are overall unapproachable or standoffish toward rotators (theres like 3-4 nice ones and you can easily tell who they are). One resident rolled her eyes at me when I introduced myself then another rotator told me that yelled at another rotator and made her cry bc of a silly mistake (wont go into details in order to not Doxx anyone). Away is easy to get, they will give an II, but they will take there home students.

2. Residents and attendings at this program also openly hate on other derm programs in the region in front of rotators. Very unprofessional.

Y'all who's gonna start the convo re what schools are best to do aways at? :Z open to hearing opinions. Some schools have stopped gauraunteeing IIs to away candidates, others have begun to prioritize internal/away candidates much more... what yall think? :)

Rush interviewed everyone who did an away this year, didn't happen previous years but thought it would be helpful to know! Great program!

theres a tab in the 25-26 sheet about aways that didnt interview rotators

Mar 21

i do not rec OSU, it is an awful away. rude faculty, rude residents. you will be miserable. easy away to get but occupy your time with another school

Mar 21

< echoing this. they interview all rotators but they are an interesting bunch..

Mar 21

I think the top program that guarantees an interview if you do an away is Miami. But they only take 4-8 rotators per year so if you get one you can be pretty well assured they like your app. They usually match 1-2 away rotators also despite having 30+ internals per year. Emory also guarantees an away. As does Tulane. Some texas programs do as well

Mar 22

Texas doesn't seem to match non-Texans often tho

UTSW does occasionally

Searching up every PD and Chair's name in the Epstein Files....> im sure

yeah unfortunately most academic derms won't be making finance/CEO level salaries lol, although there are a surprising # of derm attendings/residents from generational wealth

need some help ranking programs that are in the middle of my list: Henry Ford, Minnesota, Ohio State, and UConn, don't really have connections to these places and haven't ever been to the midwest before lolol, any thoughts on these programs and how to rank?

#28582025–2026 DermFeb 21

Been told to rank the middle more so based on location

Feb 21
2

sounds good, yeah haven't been to any of these cities and hard to tell program vibes from the interviews, any thoughts about any of these programs?

Feb 21

I think a lot of it will come down to personal preference? Ex., for me personally, I'd prioritize programs in areas where I don't have connections that are next to a bigger airport to make it easier to see family/friends; city size and demographics are also something to consider

Feb 21

Columbus, OH is a great city to live in, great football and has an airport. Winters aren't as brutal as MN. Would recommend

Feb 21
0

disagree, I think Columbus Ohio sucks ass. But it's probably better than Detroit or Minnesota

Can we make a list in the cell to the right of places whose derm interview automatically counts as your interview for a prelim/TY year too?

#28292025–2026 DermFeb 21

Penn State, Northwestern, Yale (kind of), Georgetown, Ohio State, Brown, Cleveland Clinic, UPMC, UTHSC (tennessee), Zucker/Northwell, Emory, Mizzou, WVU, Dartmouth

Feb 21

wait I didn't know about Northwestern, are we sure?

Feb 21

northwestern med derm counts for prelim.

Feb 21

Penn state does??

Feb 21
0

yes Penn state does, presented to us on interview day

Feb 21

what about northwestern regular Derm/peds derm> NW med derm counts for advanced derm NW position + med derm position. NOT prelim. You can ask to be considered for categorical IM, but that was not guaranteed by just applying.

Feb 21

Exact wording: "We are very excited to welcome you to the Northwestern University combined Medicine-Dermatology interviews, which also serves as interviews for either the categorical Medicine and/or advanced Dermatology tracks, if you have applied to either of those Northwestern programs. "

if applying to ohio state advanced and categorical, do you have to signal each individually or does one signal apply to both

#7032025–2026 DermFeb 21

i believe signals cover the entire program

Anyone know anything about Ohio State aways? Do they interview rotators?

#842025–2026 DermFeb 21

Wondering if anyone has any information on whether aways at Ohio State and/or Case Western are worth it> Did an away ot Ohio state and got an interview and solid feedback but they pretty much always take at least two internals so it's not super high yield.
