Fame & Shame

2025–2026 Derm

1 entry

1. You have to be one of Mangolds fellows to match here. It is a waste of 1 of 28 applications otherwise. The match history of the last however many years speaks for itself, but a current attending at Mayo AZ said to me (slight paraphrasing) “you just have to do what he says for a year and they’ll take you.”

Has anyone heard rumors of Mayo MN being somewhat malignant? Can't remember where I read that a while back , but hoping it's not true

how are people thinking about cost of living? so hard to decide where to rank places like SF especially with a kid vs cheap places like Mayo/WUSTL/Duke

does the interview really change anything? i was under the impression we are generally pre-ranked anyways.... <we might be pre-ranked to a certain extent. Already had a derm interview. PD said they love me and would match me right away. Told my classmate he would be a good fit < dude we can't trust PD's, they just want everyone to rank them #1 lol < Don't forget the shitshow that was Mayo "ranking" and love letters when we applied to med school. Don't trust anyone. <ooo spill the tea? didn't apply there for med school < A bunch of applicants received letters after the interview stating that we would be "ranked highly" while implicitly soliciting letters of intent from applicants. Most took this as a sign that we would be accepted (with many of those individuals being told they would be accepted during the interview itself). Then, approx 80% of those people were outright rejected from both mayo campuses based on SDN statistics.

For those applying mayo rochester, if we only want to match into the advanced program and not the categorical, we should only add the advanced program to our rank list correct? It will not increase my chace of matching overall if I add them both right>? Thank you!

Are all derm programs advanced, unless its one that has a built in prelim year (mayo for example)? Thus when setting up my rank list its ok to only select advanced programs when choosing from the list? Thank you!

Hi all, I am a current senior resident (graduate in June) at Mayo Rochester. I just wanted to share an experience as you consider programs. I reached out to one of our PDs for input on boards studying and creating a schedule. PD took the time to review my scores on exams and qbank and created a personalized board studying schedule for me tailored by topic. That is the kind of dedication and commitment you will get here from the faculty. As I am graduating, I have no investment in whether you rank us highly or not, but I just wanted to share that experience while you are considering programs. The program has prepared us well clinically to face what comes our way after graduation. Best of luck to all of you ranking and considering options. You will all do great!
