Fame & Shame

2025–2026 Derm

2 entries

1. Interview day was brutal and inefficient. 14 (!!) 8-minute interviews back-to-back with little break in-between. Program coordinator was super nice but disorganized and we ended up finishing almost an hour over time. Interviewers were super distant, most of them barely smiled when they met me, and seemed bored/uninterested the whole time.

1. Toxic program. They have a strong preference and priority for Case Western students, matching 5 out of 7 of their seats to their own students. They historically had separate allopathic and osteopathic spots but recently eliminated the reservation of the osteopathic seats and used those spots to match their own students.

Can we create an ongoing list of programs that ask for additional information in the PS (for standard, non-research applicants)? When applying to so many it's hard to keep track. Ones I know of: Case Western and UTSW.

How long has broward's derm program been around?

#25502019-2020 DermMar 23

DO program for a few years - just started taking MDs last year -- Broward is one of the most favorable MD programs of the previous DO residencies. They're already almost 50/50 and many DOs have said that they think it will be 100% MD within 5 years. They also transitioned way early on and have been accredited for a while now

Mar 23

Likelihood of them actually taking MDs rather than DOs? Have heard even though these programs are now accepting MDs, they still prefer DOs

Mar 23
0

I know an MD who matched last year <you can see the current residents on the website. they have 3 MDs and 5 DOs. seems they are taking more MDs now

Mar 23

Its really not fair to not consider MDs

Mar 23

why not?

Mar 23

And you wonder why some MD programs have DO bias...

Mar 23

Haven't met an MD program with DO bias - rather way too many MD programs with MD bias.

What is the difference between Casewestern (University Hospitals) vs Metrohealth (casewestern)? I am so confused

#23192019-2020 DermMar 23

Isn't one of them DO?

Mar 23

UH has 6 spots, 4 are MD and 2 are DO. It is more of an academic hospital. Metro is more of a community hospital and has 2-3 spots per year (2 this year). They are MD, but have been friendly to DOs in the past too. Both hospitals (and Cleveland Clinic) have affiliations with Case, but UH is basically what people mean when they say Case.

wtf why waste spots on DOs

#19902019-2020 DermMar 23

For Case Western questionnaire, what is the difference between the second and third question?? x2I am so confused? What if we haven't taken all the cores yet?

#15282019-2020 DermMar 23

i just filled out both of them the same bc i assume its a mistake << I filled it out before they added the 2nd questions 2 times

Mar 23
0

How can you not have taken the cores yet and be a MS4?<because some schools make it impossible to finish all your cores+do a derm elective/and or sub I+aways+time for research

Mar 23

< I also don't understand difference between question 2 and 3. I am in a H/HP/P/F system.

Mar 23

<< They screwed up. Originally it was 4 questions and somehow there's now 5. That question got duplicated

Mar 23

This is gonna be real awkward when my pass fail school means that my answers to this questionnaire are useless
