Those who rotated at Uab, why do you think they didn't interview a lot of away rotators? Spill the tea. << Well for starters, UAB is a really strong Dermatology program. They don't need to interview all rotators. Good candidates come to them in the application process. << this sounds like something written by an attending or resident < what makes Uab strong? why would you want to be a derm faculty there vs at Northwestern or UMich or UTSW or UMiami or UPenn or Yale even << You're shifting the goalposts and asking a different question w/regards to the caliber of Dermatology residency programs (how you choose residency programs when it comes to training you vs. how you choose residency programs where you want to go to be an academic faculty member are totally different questions). And to the person who wrote directly after me above, yes, I'm actually a PGY-4 Derm resident, but I wanted to give some perspective as someone now on the other side of the match process. It's somewhat hard to understand for Derm applicants while you'going through it, to see and evaluate derm programs in a methodical way until they get to the other side, where it makes a lot more sense. I'll admit that it's not ideal, when you're trying to decide as an MS-3 student, where exactly to rotate in Derm in MS-4 to maximize your chances of matching into Derm or at least receiving interviews from places that you have rotated.

Can any home students comment on umich and northwestern? Are they as malignant as ppl have been suggesting < wondering about miami too< I would rather call miami hardworking. < how about utsw? only thing preventing me from ranking it highly rn is the culture stereotype..if home students can chime in

Can anyone speak to the culture at Michigan and comment on whether it has changed? The residents seem really happy and the faculty were nice. I saw the post below from the ENT resident with a partner in derm there but I was hoping somebody who is a home student or away rotater might be able to comment with their input as well. Goal is to match at Washu or UMich. What research fellowships and under what mentors can I do research to make this a reality? < You're crazy to think that matching into Derm at Wash U or U Michigan (two very strong residency training programs) is something that can be accomplished by doing a specific research fellowship. Time to lower your expectations. < I don't understand why you're being so harsh? I'm asking for advice, not criticism on my person. If it's not possible, then sure you can tell me that. Also, elitism (connections with mentors) does have a strong influence in helping you get interview invites. I'm not "crazy" to think that developing connections with mentors at washu and umich is maybe a way to increasing chances of matching there.

I find programs where there is discordance between doximity ranks and general sentiments (from other students, residents, attendings) to be interesting. e.g. Mt. Sinai and Michigan. Any idea *why* that is the case? Any other examples?

Should I drop Cook County or U Mich? I'm couples matching btw < U Mich, heard its malignant < cook county for sure! it's been on probation before and also the facilities aren't as nice as michigan and michigan has a ton more resources < I would not drop U michigan < can't imagine dropping UMich for Cook County < I've heard UMich has a LOT of inbox duties, not sure about Cook County

I really want to be in city X near family.. but idk if I have it in me to rank the program in city X higher than a T10 I got somewhere far away < dude you got to make this decision yourself, no one can sway you < Time with family is something you can never get back. Once a family member is gone, they're gone. Rankings change every year. A T10 program this year might be T20 in 5 years. Michigan was top 5 on doximity in 2014, now it's outside the T10.

Does Umich have a meet and greet?

Did anyone receive confirmation from Michigan of their interview? The scheduling email said they would confirm on 12/6 but I don't have anything yet.
