They sent out an email an hour before NRMP saying that "UM Frost Dermatology will not be fortunate enough to train all of you talented and wonderful people, but I am confident that we will all be colleagues in years to come." They were trying to be positive but it was very stressful right before the NRMP email... -- Thanks for posting the email. yeah, that is stressful!

miami is not low key malignant, they are high key malignant... those pompous asshats don't even interview their own medical students... last year they had a med student match harvard that THEY didn't even interview... x1

I can add on. I think if you interested in complex med derm or academia, its a really good program. They have definitely made some changes over the last year or two (dedicated didactic time, etc) but the residents still work harder than most other programs (busy consult service, long clinics). Residents seemed to be spending their free time catching up on sleep/studying, which didn't seem to always be the case at other programs. But the hours will pay off and you'll learn both bread and butter and complex derm very well. Of note, I think they also have some of the strongest melanoma/ctcl exposure. In other words, I think maybe the people who were/are unhappy at this program are people who expected a more "kush" residency or possibly are only interested in pursing a mostly "bread-and-butter" private practive.

Michigan had real problems in the past (ie. SDN post) and probably was one of the few actually malignant programs. Many people have confirmed that those issues are long since resolved. Classmate rotated there and confirmed that as well <thank you!

<- i feel like a lot is based on history no? I know at NYU they trained some of the trailblazers in derm (like way way back) and it was also big during the AIDS epidemic -- That's good to know. Tbh, I actually don't know much of anything about derm history, and wasn't aware. So do you think they got their reputation mostly based on years of continuous contributions to the field?

NYU is the top creme de la creme program.

i would cream myself to match any of the top 5 x2 <My mentors have mentioned slightly different lists to me that they consider the top programs (though 3-4 of those always make the list), so it is all subjective. <<< Thanks for the input, good to know that they may not be as static as they seem

Please everyone remember to take "malignancy" as reported on this anonymous spreadsheet for what it really is. You don't know who is calling a program malignant or for what reasons. Unless it is a clear pattern of malignancy (for example U-Michigan a few years back as reported on SDN (which has now corrected itself)) you shouldn't give it much value at all. If a program (especially a top 20) was actually malignant, it would be abundantly clear on the interview day as it's not something that can be hidden. So, I guess my hope is that you trust your impression after your interview day and having met most of the faculty and residents, over anonymous posts on this spreadsheet. Even if someone doesn't like the feel of a certain program, that doesn't make them malignant, and neither do 7 am lectures. So please, stop spewing accusations of malignancy, and more importantly remember to consider the source. Don't let random people convince you to rank a program lower.

if the program's residents can't or won't say any negatives about the program, that is an instant red flag for me. -- Agreed x2

I interviewed at place where the residents had these pitiful smiles when telling us about their typical day. Then they asked me about work life at other programs, which really made them sad...

Rochester MN is about 10-15F colder than Ann Arbor

Have also heard the rumor that Mayo gives more support staff. Rochester is more boring and colder than Ann Arbor with the qualifier that both are cold. Ann Arbor has stuff around it but Rochester is really isolated.
