What anonymous posters said
Anonymous posters often mention rejections, some describing them as short or blunt. Several posts describe away rotations as previously important for interviews, though some note guaranteed interviews for rotators may no longer apply. A few posts mention early resident autonomy, while others describe the interview process as not fully open.
Any insight on matching at UTMB? It is my #1 program, but I am not from TX and am not a home student. Do I need to do an away rotation here? Any mentors at UTMB who will advocate for students to match at UTMB? I come from a T20 med school
Physician Only "R" (applicants who will have completed the required ABD approved clinical PGY1 will join the new 2 UTMB Dermatology 4 year Investigative Research Track as a PGY2 in the residency program). One of these positions will be offered.

Just FYI UTMB is participating in signalining this year. They are advising their away and even home students to use gold signals >> hate this but ok
my resident friend there said historically it's away rotators or home students/other ppl from Manhattan med schools

i got interviews at nyu, columbia, cornell with no nyc connections and no away and being from far away, did not get mt sinai. harvard does not take into account whether you did an away or not in their interview invites; i interviewed there as well

ya i was told not to really bother applying if I didn't do an away because all the interviews are pretty much given to home/away students

How is the UTMB away, any recs on housing or where to stay since the clinics are far apart
radio silence from most places. You can try asking to do an observership or shadow

UTMB lets you do observerships. Email Dr. Janice Wilson. Two re-applicants matched to UTMB this past year and they did 1 week of observerships. jm3wilso@UTMB.EDU. Plus they have a new R spot starting in July 2026 as well so...

this is a stupd question but what is a 2 residency?
Feb 21

not a stupid question. Residents in a 2 complete about 2 years of patient care and 2 years of intensive research

typically MD/PhD only, and not worth if you don't want to do research + take the academic paycut forever

thank you! <3

reapplicant here:( how can i see what programs had R spots available this past cycle? also does that change every year?>> Yup changes every year, there was approximately 7 or 8 when I submitted ERAS and maybe 4-6 that came out from start to end of cycle
this year I think was UCSF, case western, midwestern, UTMB, puerto rico, larkin, pcom georgia, temple, mcg, utah - half of those came out halfway through the cycle

The ones from the start of the cycle: Lark S Miami (not real, reserved for the unpaid research fellow), Case Western, Midwestern, DCC-Flint, UTMB, PR, PCOM, Georgia. Later ones that came out but from the grapevines they only interviewed people that had already signaled earlier in the cycle and/or were reserved for internal as there wasn't any mention of new reapplicants that hadn't originally signaled getting IIs: UCSF, Temple, MCG, NYMC, Wayne State, Utah

Waiting for clinical derm elevtice < waiting on October-November for UTMB as well and haven't heard anything < Was accepted to Late October - November for Dell <I got an acceptance for Baylor (Dallas) for july a week ago (mid june). Assuming someone dropped out bc thats so late to inform someone
your med school tier doesn't super matter. You need to do an away> they only send II to internals and aways
ok thank you! Do they differentiate between silver and gold signals?
not all aways get II
