Rutgers Non-Acceptance x12

#21012019-2020 DermMar 23

<Got my hopes up with the ERAS attachment <programs that do this with rejections are literally the worst. so annoying x20002 I think they just won the Darwin Awards for rejection letters << no, that was Wake Forest. Cryptic message and you had to open the attachment to see you were rejected.

Mar 23

Can't believe they send such a cryptic message and make you log in to view the rejection. So stupid.

Ugh agreed

Mar 23

<- lol they also titled the pdf as a non-acceptance letter

Top 5 programs in terms of skin of color training? x4

#20312019-2020 DermMar 23

skin of color as in red man syndrome?

Mar 23

oh good question! I would like to know too

Mar 23

My guess: Mt. Sinai, Wake, Howard, UCSF, Harvard, U penn, NYU

Mar 23

< you forgot UTAH

Mar 23

NYU??? x2

Mar 23
0

absolutely NYU << dang one would think that best skin of color training would occur in places with high % skin of color pop (Detroit, Birmingham, Baltimore, etc)

Mar 23
0

really UTAH?

Mar 23

I think sarcasm

Mar 23

What about Henry Ford, Emory, UNC, NW? Henry Ford PD actually felt the need to reassure us during the interview presentation that they get to see skin cancer at community clinics because the main hospital is so heavily just skin of color

Mar 23
0

<I rotated at UNC and felt it was very diverse - agreed, very pleasantly surprised

Mar 23

Another vote for Wake Forest! Amy McMichael is an amazing doctor and person!

Mar 23
0

<- WF faculty seems diverse, but their patient population is still pretty rural and not as diverse

Mar 23
0

yes, but Dr. McMichael has an interest in SOC so tailors her teaching/clinic to that. She gave a talk to our program a few years ago, hence the fangirling.

Mar 23

Also, Hopkins has a specific initiative to support underrepresented minority faculty and residents.

Another short notice, but anyone interested in swapping their Wake Forest 12/7 for my 1/4? Please feel free to email: wakedermswap@gmail.com

For Wake Forest - are people flying to Greensboro, Raleigh-Durham, or Charlotte?

#19822019-2020 DermMar 23

My flight connects through Charlotte to final destination of Greensboro.

Mar 23
0

Flight to Greensboro for me.

Mar 23

VV but was any of that a surprise for people going into the research year? They made an informed decision knowing that the year is unfunded and there is no guarantee of interviews

Mar 23

< may not have been a surprise, but that still doesn't make it right

MCW Waitlist

Ties to Midwest, strong app, very confused how I didn't get this one and disappointed. Congrats to you all though! << not missing much << There are 600-700 applications for a handful of positions. Don't take it personally. << Applicants who are JUST as strong as you PLUS Research Years and BOMB LORs from close mentors or friends of family.

Mar 23

I'm starting to think that a subject like of "Application update" never means interview.

Wake forest rejection (Finally) x4

#16882019-2020 DermMar 23

the gift that keeps giving << why are you so excited you got the rejection? <<< Nice to finally have closure since they have had so many cycles of invites and rejects

Mar 23
0

Very nice rejection letter, not the best communication method since your heart is beating 200bpm and you have to open up a completely neutral sounding email to view the rejection letter. Literally no idea of rejection or invite until you download the PDF x2< yea ridiculous that you have to go into eras to open an attachment for a freaking rejection

Mar 23

PD sounds like an idiot

Mar 23

Makes you really appreciate the programs that put their decision in the subject title. Shout out to UNC

Mayo Rochester Rejection x3 (ERAS or Email?)<ERAS

#15202019-2020 DermMar 23

so... what if i didn't get invited but also didn't get rejected? this gonna be like wake all over again? lol x4

Mar 23
0

they should just reject us rather than staying in limbo x1 << Just checked last year's chat and rejections came in waves. << while you're checking chat...by this point were interviews similarly distributed? or what tf is going on? << After a couple of waves of rejections, there's Mayo limbo, which appears to be a kind of wait list in case someone scheduled from the first draft dropps... Actually looks like a formal waitlist email came out later.

Wake Rejection x 9

#14682019-2020 DermMar 23

Why is Cooper still giving interviews? They have one position. It kinda waters down the interview invite that I got .

Mar 23
0

regardless of your invite, they will fill up all the spots they have for interviews. I doubt they are creating new interview spots, just filling the existing ones. CONGRATS!

Hey, random question. Does Wake Forest interview all/most rotators?

#14222019-2020 DermMar 23

No... I rotated there and did not get an interview... also heard from several other rotators who did not interview << im so sorry man --> also rotated and did not get an interview>rotated, did not get an interview

Mar 23
0

Thanks for the heads up, and I'm really sorry to hear that. I have some MS3 mentees who are considering rotating there

Mar 23
0

I will say it was a fantastic rotation. Learned a ton and good networking. Got several pubs out of it. x2

Mar 23
0

Good to know, so it's really hit or miss. You may get a lot out of it, but you may not, just depends on the person? I rotated with 10 other students, so I assume they rotate much more than they can invite

Mar 23
0

I think you'll get a lnot out of it no matter what so long as you work hard and are proactive. But as to whether or not you get an interview, it's def hit or miss.
