What anonymous posters said

Anonymous posters frequently discussed Baylor College of Medicine's interview process, noting invites often went to internal applicants first and describing the process as somewhat disorganized or confusing with Baylor Dallas. Several posts described the program as solid but more clinically than research focused, with mixed impressions about faculty turnover and a few commenters noting a perceived lighter workload during their interview day.

Thoughts on UT Austin Dell med away vs UT Houston McGovern away? < Do Dell, program is better than McGovern < but does it have less spots and less likely to take outsiders / out of staters? < have you check ut houston match list yet? < I mean most programs in Texas will take their own besides UTSW basically. McGovern is all Texans besides one girl from UNC who did a research year at UTSW and then did an away at UT Houston < a student who rotated at McGovern said it was more because this person had a connection to a McGovern resident who had been a med student at UNC

McGovern / UTHealth Q: Does anyone know if we are doing an away does that mean we don't have to signal them? I was told this was the case but wanted to be extra extra sure that is the consensus lol

Has anyone done an away at Temple? Would love to hear your thoughts! << Temple matched all people from Temple this year. Not sure if it's worth doing an audition rotation as an external student, unless you have some tie to Philly < Good point... it looks like in past years they matched 1-2 from Temple < it's great for learning regardless < Temple student here. It was an unusual year where a lot of the students applying really wanted to stay. Previous years, people wanted to go elsewhere. Also last year had 6 home applicants while this year there are 2-3. But I will say, it is very unlikely you match unless you are home or away. But they interview all away rotators.

Good to know about Temple. Sylvia Hsu is an awesome mentor to have. She was actually recruited from Baylor College of Medicine. Candrice Heath is a great person as well. I'm actually surprised that they haven't recruited more full-time academic faculty though or the ones who do come haven't stayed very long.

its weird that schools that took a lot of their own last year didn't seem to again this year? or is that just me? <- guess zoom format makes it safer to take home/away candidates < Look at Northwestern, basically their entire class are home students. I feel bad for the 15+ research years who wasted there time there expecting to be ranked LMAO < but like baylor houston had a shit ton of home students too but didn't take any of them...? but took all home students last year i think??? make it make sense < I think northwestern was trying to protect their match rate for derm by taking a few home students who didn't get many interviews or weren't competitive applicants. That's what happened at my home program so I'm assuming its the same for Northwestern <sometimes its just a numbers game... < why would they match not-that-competitive applicants instead of who they really want to protect their match rate (unless they just really like them as people)? do programs really care about their match rate? not arguing, just genuinely curious. I would pay to watch a tv show about the inner workings of PD's minds LOL < i really don't think they matched people who were weak LOL they probably honestly liked them the best < all of this is speculation can't say for sure it's one thing or another. That is, unless we know what interviews the other people got < Not true; i got highly ranked email and weren't home student < Highly ranked does not mean ranked to match. The distinction matters. < highly ranked doesn't mean jack most of the time lmao. Most of the people at NU RY understand that the chances of NU ranking them are low. Most get spots somewhere. <the super enlightened ones might not have ranekd NW high whatsoever. the corollary to a courtesy interview is that you give too many away and suddenly you cant rank all the people you gave interviews to which is why some programs dont do that (umiami) but yall dont want to hear these facts and rather go on spreadsheets to drag programs based on your opinion of how complex systems things should be run and this culture of dragging leads to less transparency to future generations of applicants

For UT Houston, did anyone get information regarding the program/ like the virtual interview information other programs sent you? If so, when did they sent that info? Want to double check and see if I got any info from them. Thanks!

when you receive BCM IM email about their plan to change their schedule for PGY1, but nothing is laid out concretely ???? < less inpatient time sounds like a win. They just went up a few spots on my list if that's the case

Just a heads up: Baylor Univ. Medical Center (Dallas) should be deleted from Match list < why? they are listed on the nrmp program list for this year as having 3 spots i think < That's Baylor COM (in Houston), not Baylor Univ (in Dallas) < whats BSW? < A/M
