What anonymous posters said

Several posts describe confusion distinguishing the University Hospitals/Case Western and MetroHealth/Case Western programs, along with recurring questions about interview invites, scheduling, and a screening questionnaire. Multiple commenters suggested the program tends to match many of its own students internally, and a few described mixed impressions of the interview experience.

Case Western Invite (DO)

#5772017-2018 DermMar 23

Is there a separate DO program?

Mar 23
0

There is a combined MD/DO program. There are 2 DO spots and 4 MD spots

Mar 23
0

Congrats on the invite! Any MD's receive invites/ are these separate tracks lol or just all together? Did they specify this wave was just for DO applicants?

Mar 23
0

Still confused if the invites were DO only or both MD/DO

Mar 23
0

If you look on the interview page, the invite was for an external DO

Mar 23
0

Additionally, the residents train in the exact same program. Congrats to all that received interviews!

Stanford invite!!! Holy crap. Through ERAS - 1/12/18.

hmmm stanford doesn't traditionally use ERAS for invites

Mar 23

The email was through ERAS but there was no ERAS scheduling (since there's only 1 date)

Mar 23

the denial is apparently still alive and well here

Mar 23

But... but... It's November, which is the 11th month of the year, and 1=2, where the 2nd letter in Stanford is "t," meaning that Stanford gives out invites on Tuesdays. IT'S A TROLL, EVERYBODY!

Mar 23

Stanford typically does internals on separate date - not this year?

Mar 23
0

Stanford didn't release anything lol

Mar 23

are you sure, how do you know? Was this the troll too? I was wondering ... MODERATORS: any news on whether this stanford thing was a troll or not?

Mar 23

Please don't let this turn into a UCSF-style debacle. I got an interview - you can choose to believe it or not. I love how no one questions Case Western, Vandy, or Minnesota.

Mar 23

Thanks! I believe you, was just confused by all these unhelpful comments. Do you mind telling me if you're external or an internal student/away rotator? I really appreciate it.

Mar 23

No problem, external with ties to CA I thanks!!

This is the most stressed out I have been... ever. x4

#5572017-2018 DermMar 23

there's still 60% of programs that are waiting to send out invites. hang in there!

Mar 23
0

Still 60%! Not to mention some places have only released partially (Penn just internal, Michigan just research track, Case Western just DO, Broward just physician only, etc. etc.)

Anyone get a Duke diversity invite or Case Western (non-DO)?

#4872017-2018 DermMar 23

Has anyone gotten an interview at the University of Michigan? (aside from the research track reported on the interview tab)

#3712017-2018 DermMar 23

They haven't released regular invites yet last I heard. On a similar vein, anyone get Duke Diversity or Case Western (non-DO)?

Did Case Western ever send non-DO interview invites?

Only 8 programs left, plus second/third wave interviews

#2142017-2018 DermMar 23

For the sake of completeness, anyone receive (or know of someone who received) an interview invitation at any of the remaining sites: Case Western Metrohealth (not to be confused with University Hospitals), KCUMB Mesa, KCUMB Cuyahoga Falls, New York Medical College, Puerto Rico, St Joseph Mercy Livington, Temple, or UT Health Science Center at Houson?

Case Western/MetroHealth invite via ERAS, external, rotator

#2042017-2018 DermMar 23

could you please fill out the away rotation impression tab? thanks!

I was just wondering, is it common now for Derm programs to run both a derm residency for MD residents as well as for Nurse Practitioners? I've been looking at derm residency websites and a little shocked to see a Derm NP on staff of a strong Derm program, with Derm physician attendings. Is this something that the AAD has embraced going forward? Are allopathic derm residents learning beside NP residents?

#14342016-2017 DermMar 22

----> That would be a complete deal breaker for me x2

Mar 22

I have browsed a lot of derm sites and haven't seen this. Since this is public information, can you share which program this was?

Mar 22
0

It was Case Western's website. I was browsing thru the Derm residency faculty: http://casemed.case.edu/dept/dermatology/faculty.html, and they have several NPs on their faculty and according to one of their bios they apparently have a Dermatology Nurse Practitioner Program there. IDK if their NP residents trained next to MD derm residents or something. A little bit irked honestly.

Mar 22
0

According to their Youtube video, it looks like that Case's NP "residents" and the MD/DO derm residents actually work & learn together: . My jaw just dropped watching that. Don't know why funding for NP derm resident(s) can't be used instead for more Case MD/DO derm spots. Just one more way the AAD and academic derms stab med students/derm residents in the back.

I mean - guys, if we want to protect our futures, we need to take a stand against things like this. No one else will fight for us. It's not uncommon to hear about midlevels thinking that dermatology is easy and hearing taht they want to move in the field. Is there any indication Case is actually a "top" program? I would be extremely hesitant to train there.

Mar 22
0

Case is not a "top" program, but it's a relatively strong Derm program. From their website, they do quite a bit of derm basic science research if that's your thing.

Mar 22
0

Hmmm interesting, thanks for sharing

Mar 22
0

This has been looked into heavily by the AAD. Just google "Derm Care Team AAD" and see how the AAD responded to a NP organization that wants to independently certify themselves as "dermatologists." You'll find their position statements on the matter
