Fame & Shame

2025–2026 Derm

2 entries

1. The faculty and residents are incredibly kind

1. Not their fault, but the commute between sites really sucks and is why I won't be ranking it higher. Most residents live in UES which is great but the commute is between 45 min to 1 hr 15 depending on what site you're at.

Most clinics are resident-run, so they work hard and have lots of autonomy. Because there is no affiliated VA, my impression was that the surgical volume is not the highest. Having said that, they seem to really take care of their residents; there is a reported 90% match rate for surgical fellowships, partly because they like taking their own residents.

comments on Albert Einstein?

#25492019-2020 DermMar 23

Chair was a mess. Interview day was a mess lol That aside it's a solid program - It's a "division" of medicine so there's something going on there but you'll get solid training. More skin of color. A little travelling. If it's your first time living in NYC the Bronx may be a little underwhelming but it's a pretty solid program for "the city".

for AM einstein interviewees, anyone know if we actually have to be there at 7:30? I find it hard to sit there for an hour eating breakfast

#24262019-2020 DermMar 23

sometimes getting there too early is bad, more likely will have awkward moments of silence of forced conversation that will be remembered than positive conversation

ugh, totally agree > early is on time

For Albert Einstein, should we assume the date we selected on ERAS is our interview day? The email just said select by 12/20

#22342019-2020 DermMar 23

< I think so. I did get an email confirming that date, though, so maybe send them an email next week if you don't hear back

Einstein vs WashU?

Same idea as Michigan << what does that mean? << see below

thoughts on Einstein vs Michigan? << if you have any inclination of going academics, michigan is your best bet. If you want private practice, Einstein will set you up for it. Most of their faculty do not engage in meaningful research. A few select faculty are pumping out the research. More diversity at Einstein in terms of patient population so you will be very good at skin of color. Also, depends if you want a fellowship. I know last year a chief resident didn't match for Mohs. Michigan is probably better for fellowship too. Think about your career goals when making this decision. Both locations are not ideal. Michigan has had some malignancy issues, but any program in NYC will be relatively colder than outside of NYC

#21502019-2020 DermMar 23

Einstein for location and patient diversity<einstein is in the bronx, not a great location...I'd go to Michigan hands down, it is superior in every aspect

Mar 23
