5 entries✅1. The didactics and the faculty were top tier. Location is hard to beat and so is the salary and housing. Residents seemed happier here than any other program I rotated at. They don't pay much attention to medical students compared to other schools, but were very kind when I made conversation. Seemed that they just wanted to focus on their work. Ranking highly.
✅2. I feel like I had a totally different experience than the shame commenter in terms of training. The residents I was with did essentially all procedures in clinic and let me help with some. The faculty rarely if ever stepped in, and when they did I thought they offered helpful clinical pearls. I wonder if this is attending dependent. I also felt that the consult service is very reasonable for their volume (2-3 months/year with the other 10ish months spent on clinic) and is a significant pro of the program because of the variety of cases you will see
❌1. One of the most overrated programs out there where it's only saving grace is the name and location. One of the allergy attendings is incredibly rude (ifykyk) and it's clear he does not give a damn about medical students or even residents for that matter. He should not be working with rotators if he hates them that much. Despite being in the city, vibes are very weird if you're a POC. Training is abysmal, residents are micromanaged for simple procedures like biopsies and rarely get the autonomy to do any themselves. A ridiculous proportion of your training is spent doing consult medicine which 99% of applicants are not even interested in. I ended up ranking very low due to my eye-opening horrible experience there.
❌2. Residents are be a bit standoff-ish and seem stressed overall. They like each other but not the med students. For example, a resident said they left a room bc they didnt want to be in there with the med student. If you do the 2 week IM rotation, it'll be hard to get an II bc you see less faculty. The 4 week is better bc you rotate with different faculty & they send the II once you finish the away. Residents are not part of the interview process but they will report back to faculty if there's concerns. The allergy guy in the previous comment is likely Dr. Z. He's def just blunt at first but then on a good day, hes actually pretty nice and make jokes. Its very 50/50. Either way he doesnt contrib to the interview process. Its a huge faculty, but half of them dont even interview you so its very interesting. you dont rotate at lincoln memorial
💬1. Residents dont seem to like eachother. competitive vibes even among eachotehr > only did a 2 week away here so maybe i didnt get the full vibe as a 4 week away student, but the residents seemed to be good friends with each other. idk what theyd be competing for lol theyre already in residency

Any historical data on whether prelim/ty programs (e.g. MSKCC) communicate with home derm institutions (e.g. cornell) re: extending interviews for the same students? Or is it a coincidence that they tend to match the same ones?

anyone else feel dissapointed by the away programs they rotated at? i was honestly underwhelmed and i rotated at ''big name'' programs.< The residents at the big name I rotated at had substantially worse procedural and interpersonal skills than the residents at the state schools. < which big name is this?<Cornell < i heard the residents there were rude is it true <Some were aloof but polite. <how were the home students being rude?<"aloof but polte" just say they had a touch of the 'tism. its more common than you think among big brain med studs/residents <"Aloof but polite" means they probably ignored the med students < which if you ask me isn't polite

Is doing aways at Cornell or Columbia worth it for someone who wants to stay in NYC? Not much info on the spreadsheets < Mount sinai is a better option < Sinai interviewed a lot of the rotators and it was a GREAT rotation

Away rotations are tricky because if you rub someone the wrong way, there goes your interview (even if it's not your fault ie being at the wrong place at the wrong time)

why does yale always match people from nnon-top tier schools? do people from top schools not rank it high?< this isn't true< why would they rank it high? overrated. < that and they like people who send LOI, top applicants wouldn't usually send a LOI to Yale < so they would rather have desperate people who want to be at yale than top applicants. sounds like they have pride/ego issues < this year they were super committed to URIM recruitment because they have an image issue and really want to diversify the program. Usually they take a bunch of internals and people from other Ivy League schools. < current roster has no other top schools? < internal here…they seem to care most about board scores/research achievements + wanting to come to Yale + internal applicants. I know for a fact that they don't care much about where the applicants come from but more about what they've done since starting med school. The chief resident I worked with in clinic there told me that they almost never like Harvard applicants because they too often are arrogant or are not as accomplished as similar applicants from lower tier schools who have had to work hard to be competitive. I kind of get that based on my experience with Harvard people tbh lol. But they've also taken NYU, Cornell, Stanford people in the past 5 years just to name a few.
