how many internals do hopkins and washu have this year?

NW vs Wash U? < I would go with Wash U. < Why? < Better culture, especially with Ilana Rosman as PD. You're certainly not at a disadvantage in any way if you want to go for Mohs, Dermpath, or Pedi Derm coming from Wash U's Derm program.

Goal is to match at Washu or UMich. What research fellowships and under what mentors can I do research to make this a reality? < You're crazy to think that matching into Derm at Wash U or U Michigan (two very strong residency training programs) is something that can be accomplished by doing a specific research fellowship. Time to lower your expectations. < I don't understand why you're being so harsh? I'm asking for advice, not criticism on my person. If it's not possible, then sure you can tell me that. Also, elitism (connections with mentors) does have a strong influence in helping you get interview invites. I'm not "crazy" to think that developing connections with mentors at washu and umich is maybe a way to increasing chances of matching there.

What does WASHU value in applicants? Is there a trend amongst applicants who match there? (Other than board scores, med school prestige, etc) < people who view rosman as a god among men < They value people who are independent and passionate. I don't think they want people who have done things to check boxes, but instead done things they really enjoyed and wanted to do. Based on my interview day I dont think medical school prestige made any difference - most people were from low tier or mid tier schools. They also blinded interviewers to Step 1 scores. They specifically said they wanted people who were self-starters and independent - those who can learn on their own and are intellectually curious < so if you're OOS is that ok? should I send a token here < I think all the people on my interview day were OOS. I sent a token b/c I felt like I was the type of person they wanted. There's a good interview with Dr. Rosman on Topical where she talks about being a PD and I think that's really helpful to understand how she views applicants. Also should add that I don't do any medtwitter, so you don't have to be a medtwitter or dermtwitter person to get invited < lol no kidding

what programs have come out to say no LOI because i go shoot myself in the foot. I know Wash U has, any others?

how many people is Wash U interviewing? they have a ton of interview days/times < seems like 12-13/day - so maybe 52? < thanks. do you know what the note writing situation is for them? don't mind high volume but writing 20 notes daily will get old fast < Shoot, not sure. But you definitely do not do call backs or prior authorizations unless you're in resident clinic (which isn't that often). < thank you!

any insight on Wash U's prelim program? // You mean Wash U's IM prelim program? < yeah lol figured the IM was implied as people here are probably not doing the surgery prelim < Some people do a surgical intern year because some (not me but others) feel that the year is easier than an IM year or they're like interested in Mohs. If you can, do an IM prelim at an easy community program or a transitional year before heading into Derm

so you're telling me some programs like *cough cough wash u* kill their prelims with inpatient blocks but have their categorials on x+y schedules? | A prelim IM intern at Wash U isn't going to be treated any differently than a categorical IM intern at Wash U in terms of service months, for the most part. Categorical IMs have a 4 + 2 because of their outpatient IM clinics that prelims don't have. < so what does that mean for prelims for those 2 weeks? because it looks like the schedule for prelims is almost exclusively inpatient.

My home program has not had a single cancellation and Wash U just posted that they haven't either and i'm sure many other programs are the same. Ice cold out here for those of us hoping for trickles < Not surprised since everything is virtual so no need to cancel the interview.

If anyone has a Wash U interview date other than 1/20 and wants to trade for my 1/20 spot, I would be extremely grateful for it! I have a conflict with another derm interview and I honestly don't have many to begin with. My number is on the swap page.

anyone know other programs that iv separately for prelim (wash u) vs those derm iv counts also as prelim IV (upmc)? < so if we interview at upmc we can rank their prelim? even if we didnt apply? < Does Medstar count as prelim?? < I wish this was more clear at programs! < for UPMC you do have to aply but don't have to interview

Why is everyone so interested in emory? have an II there and it seems good but can't see why it gets so much love. atlanta is decent, but there doesn't seem to be anything that really sets it apart from a WUSTL or NW or Vanderbilt

how are people thinking about cost of living? so hard to decide where to rank places like SF especially with a kid vs cheap places like Mayo/WUSTL/Duke
